I only see the three ships that are in competition to DK toxic. I used to ship 2 out of the 3 relationships back in high school.

I think that, like Stefan said, every vampire relaitonship are toxic in the end, and every relationship of this show is damaged a bit That being said, I think Damon loved her deeply and has loved her for many years, but I also think they weren't meant to last in the end

I liked their teaming moments in seasonn2-3 and 5 though, they were funny

I miss these two so much. I still feel like the writers went with what was popular, rather than what made a good story. Having Damon saving Kat, then killing her in the same season was bizarre and made no sense. None. Another thing I didn't like was how they wrote Kat's character in S5. Her loving Stefan is not new. Her being so melodramatically boy-obsessed is INSANE. It just wasn't her. Katherine was still a survivor but sometimes incredibly silly in her Stefan delusion. What I loved about Katherine is her mastery over her emotions. She was always a thinker, setting feelings aside to get the job done, no matter how strong her feelings are. The example I am going to give is in 1864 when she CHOSE to leave the Salvatore boys, rather than take them with her wherever she went. Even after they were turned into vampires. This is a big deal cuz Kat truly loved them (as much as the show likes to pretend that Damon doesn't love her and she doesn't love him). Kat used her head instead of her heart. In S5, Kat was speaking another language and it made no sense to me. My Kat would be plotting her way to being IMMORTAL, not in LOVE. Your child wants to be with you and all you care about is making out with Stefan? Katherine Pierce is SO much more than a crazy ex.

Plus we never found out how DK met in 1864. The connection that Damon and Katherine had was sweeped under the rug. The writers basically ignored them, like they did Jeremy and Vicki. I believe in S2, they were a possibility, but now the die has been cast.

I will always love them above every ship that I ever had though. I still go back and watch some of their scenes on Youtube and now perhaps I will read the book set in 1864. That is VERY Datherine-centric, unlike the show.
