She is the leader of the up-and-coming New Directions. He is the three-time Nationals winning star of Vocal Adrenaline. Their story begins in a music store with a little song written by Lionel Richie called 'Hello,' and sparks fly.

Their relationship is not an easy one. Being on rival teams causes conflict, so they are forced to keep it under wraps. Rachel tries to end it, claiming she needs to focus on her own team, but she cannot get rid of him that easily. The next day, Jesse transfers to McKinley High. He says to have transferred for Rachel so they could be together openly. However, later on we realize that this was not the whole truth. Jesse St. James was on a mission.

A mission for Shelby Corcoran, to be precise, but not for the reason many were expecting. Rachel was Shelby’s daughter, and she was desperately trying to forge a connection. While it had began as a simple acting exercise, Jesse realized he had genuinely fallen for Rachel himself. However, when he succeeded in getting her to listen to the tape of Shelby singing, his mission is over, and it's time to return to Vocal Adrenaline.

Pressured by his teammates to prove loyalty to them alone, he goes along with their plan to humiliate the one thing New Directions had that they didn’t: Rachel Berry. In a few moments of hesitation, his conflict is obvious. In the end, he chooses his dreams and future over Rachel and cracks the egg on her forehead, but not before saying his piece: “I loved you.”

For Jesse and Rachel, season one was full of many things: lies, mutual ambitions, singing and genuine feelings that ultimately ended up in heartbreak. It is not their time. However, if their long glances at Regionals prove anything, it’s that they’re anything but over each other. Only time will tell.

I saw someone on tumblr posted that Kelly obviously didn't know there was an episode switch b/c then it would've made sense but since I don't have a tumblr account I couldn't respond that it still didn't make sense. Without the episode switch, Funk would've been next and Jesse still would've done a complete 180 over night. The only thing having the episodes in the right order might've fixed would've been if JR had some sort of conversation where he tried to explain or apologize.

I'm just still pissed that we got jipped out of potential scenes in Theatricality b/c of that stupid effing episode switch but either way Jesse's loving behavior in Dream On contrasted with what was in Funk still would've been jarring. I'm just glad Jon played Jesse so conflicted with his facial expressions.

I want a gif of that look that passes between JR after they've sang AOBTD and I want one of Jesse giving Giselle a dirty look when she makes fun of Rachel being a Vegan. I wonder if Kristen would make them for me?

Amy I've read Chapter 2 too and it's even more wonderful than the first one - if it could be possible! First, I've always loved the idea of a Puckleberry friendship. me too. Even though I'm still pissed at the episodes switch and the lack of any other bonus JR scene, I have to say "Thank God for Jonathan Groff". His facial expressions, his eyes speak enough, more than any other bonus dialogue, or explanation. I mean, we can't speak aloud all the feeling rushing through us. Sometimes our face speaks even more than our voice. But sometimes other people just can't (or don't wanna) see it. And this happens...so much, in tv shows, real life...ALWAYS

Ah, and about Shelby on the Honorary Shippers list, I think she should be there.

I know there would have been some look in Theatricality when Rachel discovers Shelby is her mom because you can clearly see where Jesse was in the background but was cut out. Who knows if there would have been an actual conversation, but that look would have just been amazing (not to mention great footage for vidding).
