I can only think they went into the finale (despite the show being renewed in advance) still having to negotiate with her, and she decided to leave. But then they had crafted the finale to start off something.
But usually with shockers, and unexplained stuff. They have the show come out and explain in some way, even if they want to leave some stuff to be revealed come fall. None of the traditional media sources were aware Emily was leaving. Usually there are rumors roaming around, of contracts needed renegotiating, but this one seems to catch people off guard. Who knows, we might hear more because they had done so much this season without really explaining themselves. __________________

Jasper you're completely right, though, I have a sinking feeling that they're just going to ignore Emily's departure...
Either way Emily seems to be doing great, taking some time off... Haven't read anything about her moving onto a new project though... I still loved this scene, I just wish that it'd have happened under different circumstances...: __________________

She must be at least 3 months pregnant - possible more , as she already knows that its a boy... Which means that this could be the reason why she left the show and why no one from the production has said anything about her exit...

She has to be at least three months pregnant to know the gender, possibly four
 . But they presumably stopped production in April. It is possible that she decided after filming the final episode so maybe in May she decided. But to me either way she would've been early on, unless she's further along than we presume. I'm not trying to dismiss or disagree, I'm simply choosing not to get my hopes up  . It does however make a lot of sense if this is the case. Especially with them not saying anything & leaving it open for Ellie to return. It was one of those finals where she could've been seen again in the season premiere, later on in the next season, the season after, or even a few years later. It was well done in that sense. Then them not saying anything is odd, so if her departure is connected to her pregnancy that does make sense as they wouldn't have been able to say anything about that.Some of the NCIS actors/alum responded :

No, it makes sense that you don't want your hopes up...
But at least they've left the door truly open for her, if she ever wants to come back... That's nice that half of the cast has already congratulated her/them..  __________________

Congrats to her! That would make sense if this is why she left! Even if she may not have been pregnant at the time maybe she wanted to try.

I was the same... I still have no idea if I've ever seen him in anything, but they look happy & that's the most important thing... __________________
