ML Thank you!!!

We need to decorate for your birthday week

edited cause I went back to see the end of the old thread. Wow that was a very shocking Bday "surprise" ML we all want things to be on our own terms but so often that is not the case. I hope you are "eased" out in an easy way that feels right and respectful to you. You have given them a large part of your adult life and done a wonderful job. We will have a celebration here when that day actually comes.

Hi keepsmiling kids getting over colds ( what else is new) my sister got that practice device in her back... (has it for 7 days to see if she wants the permanent one) it seems it might be affecting the neuropathic pain but the thing hanging out of her back is hurting so much she can't really tell. She is just not coping at this point..talks much about suicide ...I call daily and distract her...and pray a lot. My sister inlaw has an art opening tomorrow evening...I made 2 batches of choc chip cookies for it. She called and asked if I would make some which was great cause she doesn't ask for things. I go to Liz's as is usual on Fridays and she and her family will drive to Aunt Annes show which is sweet of them. Thanks for asking. How about you and yours?

Thanks PodMom, you are the best! Yes, it's not always on our terms. And I am still in the dark about it - nobody has really said anything to me directly yet (from publisher). SIGH. It was quite a shock Thirty years, I've worked for the Boss and almost 20 years on the Journal. I'm so glad I consulted that financial planning lady and have been studying up on all available information on retirement stuff, so I'm not in total panic mode. Right now, I'm just worried about getting ready for Passover this weekend! Need to deal with Monday first, and then we'll work on the rest of our lives!

And meanwhile, giant piles of work to do still and feeling less than motivated...

Wow, so soo sorry about your sister being in so much pain and not coping. So so hard. Glad you could help sister-in-law artist with chocolate chip cookies! And help Liz - you are such a blessing to so many PodMom

ugggg yet another lost long post

My touch pad is so sensitive it erases stuff

I will try to rebound but I hate typing

So anyway....

keepsmiling I'm glad I picked some of your favs

ML That is a huge blessing you are already in how to retire financially mode before this news..leak I guess since not official .... came to your knowledge. 30 years seems long enough! Compared to the next generation we will probably live like kings in our retirement so try to relax. Do you look at Proverbs in Temple ever? My Fav one is ....
Proverbs 3:5&6 " Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight"

I memorized that one a long time ago and it has been very helpful to me in times of decision. Of course the "acknowledge me in all your ways " part is a big challenge that I will never get completely right that is for sure but the trying to is the point

posting 1st part cause ... insurance against loss

So the art show was fun and Anne sold to works so that was nice for her. We went out to dinner with she and her husband after because the friends they had arranged to dine with couldn't make it so surprise for us. I hated what I got so I will finally remember I just don't like raw fish. This was a seafood place so I thought I'd be adventurous plus nothing on the menu appealed to me anyway. It said rice bowl with marinated veggies and it no lie was maybe the size of a cup ( which was good since I hated it) but was comical and good for joking about. Podad and I rarely go to the chic fancy type restaurants and a good amount of the time when we do I think I like "regular "places better. Too fancy and weird food for me. Sometimes it is awesome but for that kind of money I would rather have a sure bet

But the show was SO much fun for the kids. Grace was in heaven charging around with a new wide open space with lots of way different things to see. I mean charging literally. Head down stomping forward....could care less if we were behind her ( which of course one of us was at all times) she was just so happy to have a big new space to practice this cool walking thing she started doing not that long ago. All her favorite ppl around at her beck and call. It was so fun to watch her she was so cute Anna Lee was in her glory shopping at the colorfull craft sellers that were set up too. She got a hand made butterfly necklace that she enjoyed sporting around. She also got to be on a live podcast. There was one room of the show devoted to some kind of funny strange installation. Most of which was devoted to a mocking tribute to cooking shows. TV screens as painting with videos of goofy send ups of cooking shows all around their room. Then randomly there were two women ( one of which was recognizable from the videos) set up in a card board make shift space capsule 'presumably' kind of thing doing a live stream FB show with ppl wandering by. Anna Lee watched a little older boy talking to them and I could tell she wanted to "be on screen" too. So she did and the sarcastic funny woman asked AnnaLee where she saw herself in five years....Anna Lee thought about that for quite a few seconds( of course not understanding the comedic value of that question given her age) and said "at a concert" the woman said would you be at the concert or be the concert. Anna Lee said I would be the concert. Then the woman asked what kind of genre music to you prefer...country,pop,rock? Anna Lee said "I want to be a rock star" then the lady asked if she would play an instrument AL said...clarinet(mom plays that) then the lady asked how many will you play and AL said two. a little more talk then Grace charges into the space so I pick her up and put her on the screen for the FB ppl and a little while later Liz came in so I said here are three generations and had her pop on. SO that was fun. Tommy had a ball too running all over and putting dollars in this huge thing on the wall of wheels that move around when you put cash in ( fund raiser that is always there) My cookies were a huge hit. So a good time was had by all. btw Grandpa,Daddy and Bro in law were there too.

Thanks, PodMom have to trust in the Lord and not worry, but it's hard. I thought this getting fired had all blown over because there was an email Friday that the publisher would keep me on after all - but I re-read it today and realized it said things would go on as planned (with moving my journal 'inhouse' to the publishing company) but I could 'stay on as a consultant' - whatever that means! I don't know. I'm glad we just paid off the mortgage (2 years early) and the car, too. I just suddenly feel like my (work) life is over, and it's a shock. Then again, I was hating that I had to work another year, when Mr ML retired already so...

Did some cooking for Passover but probably not enough. Bought some strawberries (to go with the sponge cake I need to bake tomorrow) but maybe not enough. LOL! Need to bake more things tomorrow, plus put away all the non-Passover food and disavow all knowledge of it. Then Monday is a 'limbo' day when you can't eat bread anymore, but you can't eat matzah until the Passover seder. Need to come home early so we can get to my cousin and friends' Passover seder. MLette is bringing John the BF, that should be fun. He's so nice!

This has been a whirlwind week, with the furnace breaking, my birthday, maybe losing my job, Mr ML had his monthly poker night, so I had to take down all the birthday stuff right away so he could use the dining room table (and I had the poker guys eat most of the leftover birthday cake, has to be gone by Sunday night), and now Passover! Whee!

The art thing sounds wonderful and the kids had a blast charging around, and Anne sold art - oh Bossy Betty's granddaughter is an artist in NC and was in a show and sold 3 paintings! My niece's kids are so talented (she's pretty talented herself, writing romance novels, got a black belt in karate, relocated the family to NC etc). Very headstrong person. My friend in FL has really gotten into art, but it's odd stuff, encaustic (art with melted wax) and now she's experimenting with melting different metals.. Edgy! Makes her happy.

Oh the new trendy thing is Poke (Poh-kay) Bowls - two or three restaurants opened for that, I guess it's from Hawaii, and it's raw fish in a bowl of rice or salad, and people were lining up to eat that (awful sounding) stuff. Very trendy. Sounds like what you got!

Great to see WEN's drive by!

ML.........glad you can stay on as a consultant. They will need your experience and help I am sure.

PODMOM.......the art showing, dinner and family time was wonderful. Seems like the grandkids enjoyed everything most of all.

We're getting ready for Easter visitors. Just don't know how many for sure so it is hard to plan the grocery store, etc.

Actually talked to publishing house guy today; they are willing to let me stay until end of the year but if they take my work away (in June), what am I going to be doing? Mrs Boss doesn't give me enough work anymore to justify a full-time job (or any job, really). Well, in the meanwhile, I keep working! Publishing guy offered to put my name out for freelance work too, but I'm not sure I want to start doing that now/soon (point of retiring is to stop working?)
Well, I guess you keep working, nobody pays for it anymore?

Had lovely Passover seders, first big one with my cousin and her friends, the twin sisters and extended family/friends of theirs. Lila brought John and he was very happy (he's always happy) but it ran late for him (he's an early riser). Then, she brought him to our house for the second seder too - what a nice guy! That was really nice, even though the temperature shot up here yesterday to really hot, and I was making soup and baking stuff and PHEW! Hot!

Got some pretty new kitchen curtains - very country-ish (white with a border that's sort of like a quilt in primary colors). Decided I should hang them up last night too, before the company arrived, so I was super sweaty! But they looked very nice.

Passover goes until Tuesday night - which happens to be Barbara's birthday, so that will be a nice way to end Passover - with a birthday party!

Yikes ML so much is happening in your life and what with Passover and all the other stuff you have had to be doing/preparing to do...shwew!!!! I jut got winded reading it all

Consulting is what podad has done the last couple or 3 ? years. They asked him how much he wanted to be paid ( he wasn't prepared for that..he upped is wage by 15$ but felt like he was dumb about that and should have asked for more given his experience....so be ready for that question....when you consult generally I'm pretty sure you work for a different company than you had been...maybe you can get more money...just wanted you to be prepared in case)

You are so fortunate to have a naturally easy going person potentially to be marrying in to the family. BTW are they talking marriage yet? Those are rare in my experience.....we don't have any...I'm the closest to that and I'm wearing out well accept for the kids. They are happy when they aren't the total opposite of happy

Yea sounds like the poke bowl. I like Mexican bowl things...you can keep the Asian ones with "bait"

Great to see you whiz by Wen

Yea keepsmiling the kids had the best time. Maybe you can have a pot luck for Easter

So the past few days in OC have been kind of stressful what with all the meetings with 2 archetects /2 builders...the 4 of us. It went as good as it could have. They have said they will do the rebuild ( insert cautious I'll believe it when it really is happening smilie) we agreed on the builder but are still deciding about architect. It is hard enough deciding if/when/what to build on your own but cooperating with another couple is a more challenging prospect plus this is way more my dream than podads and he isn't the most easy going person but so far he has done really well being diplomatic but that is a drain on him and of course me because it makes me very tense. SO that was a long way to say...so far so good this really looks like it has a very good chance of happening. We got home last evening. Now we have to drive to DC to have Easter with Emily and Robbie....that was worked out again......meeting Em and R and Liz's fam at the National zoo at 9am got to leave by 7. We will spend the night in a hotel then church Sunday then head home.

The kind of coveting I have the hardest time with is ppl that live real close to their kids. I know it could be WAY worse but I'm just confessing

Yes, Passover has been a lot of extra work. I got home yesterday, Mlette was there, so I made matzah lasagna for dinner - I didn't even get to sit down for a minute, started cooking supper as soon as I got home. And then later, I baked matzah muffins, so I could send her home with a chunk of lasagna and some muffins to tide her over. She's working all weekend, to let somebody else enjoy Easter (and as it's Passover, she can't go to Easter dinner at John's house this year).

No talk about marriage yet or getting engaged (but everybody else is talking about it/hoping it happens! lol). Yes, we are lucky he's such a sweetheart, although I'm not sure his parents are that easy going. His dad seems like the stern and demanding type. His mother loves to bake, so I like her already! She can bake rings around me!

You are remodeling/rebuilding the OC house? I think I missed that. Do you plan to retire there, or just fixing it up better. Or making it more storm-worthy/insurable/putting it up on stilts? It would be hard to work with another family planning stuff. I hope it goes smoothly!

I know what you mean - I really would like to buy a side by side duplex and have Mlette (and John) move in next door! That would be so nice (for us at least).

LOL, I told Barbara she has to pick out/buy her own birthday cake for Tuesday, because we can't buy nonPassover stuff while it's still Passover.

Yes, hipsters are all eating bowls of FISH BAIT! ;p

I'm sure everybody is busy with Easter preparations! Happy EASTER!

ML

Wen,keepsmiling and Mezz

I hope you get to live near Mlette too!

Does MLette say he is a possible or is she that quiet I want this guy for you

If it happens we will tear the whole house down and build a brand new 5 bedroom three bath on each unit. Both couples would use it eventually for their biggest house. They will still have the top floor...with an elevator. Our first floor will be way higher and flooding wont be a issue anymore. We will have a designated storage area that could be turned into an elevator if we ever need one. I am waiting to see where my kids end up permanently if that ever happens. Eventually we would sell this big house and hopefully get a small place maybe a condo near at least one of the kids...probably Liz. We shall see if this house thing happens but it looks pretty hopeful. They have said yes. We are moving forward. When that old Haven gets torn down then I'll really believe it.
