Gratitude
So, when I started this so-called Oscar-speech, I really didn’t know exactly what to write here.
Looking back on the 100th’s speech, I figured that there was no way I could top that and I was
right, I can’t. All I can say now is that we’re still Wildcats, still friends, still family and will
always be sisters. There will always be something that connects us all and this is it. Our passion for
one of the greatest love stories ever told that hasn’t even started yet…it’s still going on and
will remain constant. They’re always going to be our tie to one another and I could not be
more greatful of these two random people in the world who just happened to run into each other
one day at an audition and decided that they were next. They are going to be the next
Robert & Elizabeth Barrett Browning. And for that alone, I owe them more than my words could ever say.

And here’s where the modern day Oscar speech really comes in handy. Here on my little white
note card, I have all the people I need to thank – Molly, Cris, Betty, Izzy, Peggy, Tugba and
animation!Kat did a famazing job on constructing this whole thing and yes, they did it all, I just
put it in codes. Also a special thank you to Hannah for making us these awesome banners that
are famazing as well. We’re keeping those in this thread everyone. No arguments. I’d
personally like to thank Robert & Elizabeth for this theme and helping me write this and oh

Well that might be interesting she thought. Flexible hours and excellent salary sounded promising, and discretion…..what could that mean? It would be very different from all her previous jobs. After graduating high school, the only secretarial work she managed to find were those that curbed her free spirit within the clattering confines of the typing pool, numbingly filling in the blanks of boilerplate contracts, in triplicate. The monotony of it made her want to scream. She also hated the games that were inevitably played by the men in these types of offices. Frustrated by their frigid wives, they seemed to believe that a young attractive woman would find their advances flattering, and she knew that given even a small amount of encouragement, their perverted hands would be all over her. She was fired from the last one after repeatedly rebuffing one of the senior partners. That was nearly two weeks ago.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, she thought as she ripped the ad from the newspaper, deciding to give it a try. She telephoned the number in the ad, but no one answered. She felt desperate, deciding to take a walk to the downtown address and see if she could secure an interview. She dressed in her only good suit, a pale grey wool, which although conservative, managed to highlight her petite shape. She wore a pretty pink blouse underneath the tight fitting jacket, and black high heals. She opted for a small leather clutch, which held her lipstick, keys and her last $5.00. What more could a girl need she reasoned.

She arrived at the building, which was located in a less than desirable section of the city and quickly found the suite number on the directory. After climbing the stairs to the second floor, she was confronted with a frosted glass door that simply read, “Zac Efron, Private Investigator.” After a short pause that allowed her to take a deep breath, she gave a tentative knock while twisting the knob, and the door swung open easily on its hinges. She entered a small, dingy, windowless outer office. There wasn’t much to take in. Several chairs lined the wall along with a vacant secretarial desk complete with a typewriter and telephone, and behind it was another doorway that she assumed led to Mr. Zac Efron. She knocked, but was met with more silence. Emboldened by her desperate need of a job, she turned the knob and entered. Her eyes swept the space before settling on the large desk, which despite its well-worn appearance, somehow managed to give off a commanding air. Several files cluttered its surface, and amid the mess sat a telephone, a near empty bottle of scotch, accompanied by a rather dirty looking glass which still held traces of the amber liquid, an overflowing ashtray and….were those photographs peeking out from one of the files? Vanessa bit her lip. She was curious by nature, and it had often gotten her into trouble, yet she could never resist it. She held out one manicured finger to coax the pictures from their resting place. There were a series of them, taken at night, likely with a telephoto lens. An older man, with a much younger woman, leaving a nightclub, before driving off. More shots showed the couple getting out of the car, acting like lovers as they walked the front path toward the house. The next set caused the heat to rise in Vanessa’s cheeks. The couple were in bed, making love and the expression on the woman’s face was,……..She spun around, hearing the outer door open and the strides of someone approaching Mr. Efron’s office door.

She quickly turned back to the desk in an attempt to stuff the pictures back in their hiding place when the door crashed opened and in walked a man whose intense stare caused the breath to catch in her throat. To say he was disheveled was an understatement, but his appearance only piqued her curiosity further. He appeared to have slept in his clothes, possibly for more than one night. The shirt he wore had long ago given up its battle to remain tucked in his pants, while his tie hung limply from his neck, his hat, she noticed, was pushed back on his head, offering a view of his uncombed hair and the stubble that covered his face erased all doubt that he had seen the inside of a shower within the last day or two. Zac held Vanessa’s gaze without flinching, curious who this pretty young stranger could be. But then the fatigue he had been fighting over the last 36-hours hit, and a spark of anger crossed his handsome features when he noticed the pictures in her trembling hand. He really wasn’t in the mood to deal with another frustrated housewife seeking to catch her husband in an affair. “Who the hell are you?” was the only greeting he cared offer.
