No, but that's true of a lot of OTPs where the fans never let go. The OUAT fandom got truly insane over non-canon ships.

I think Mark fed off of it, and fed INTO it. Well, we all know now what a NOT good guy he was. He had no intention of going anywhere with that plot and shouldn't have put Sophia through it.

I think there's always a balance. You shouldn't be completely obsessed with fan feedback, or completely immune to it.
