It was, but man, the night of the finale was REAL rough. It's fueled all my sympathy for later character deaths.

I always hate pointless character deaths, like Marissa, Keith and Laurel for example.

There are even times when I think the death is done well, like Will on The Good Wife- not one of my favorite characters and I think the death spurred a creative upswing. But I was still really sorry for his fans, because I know how that feels.

Character deaths are more justifiable in my eyes when the actor is leaving the show and there's no way they would just leave randomly all of an sudden.

That helps. Josh Charles had wanted to leave for over a year. Sometimes, there isn't a good alternative, if the actor is leaving.

That's why actors/actresses leaving is good to be know a year or so in advance because killing of characters every time a actor/actress leaves is just not fair to the fans.

Yeah, I remember he needed to be convinced to come back for Season 5 so they could write him off.

Which is what happened on NCIS IIRC- Sasha Alexander decided to leave very shortly before the S2 finale, so killing Kate off ended up being kind of the only way out.
