Agreed, even though I don't think it was the most well written storyline of all time lol

Yeah, Haley and Lucas were clearly Mark's least favourite core characters

I wouldn't say that Lucas was at the "Haley" level of Mark's dislike. Lucas sure suffered from the fact that Peyton had to have a miserable life and thus Mark made him sometimes a complete d*ck to her and other women, but he still was a vital part of the show from the beginning, someone who had connections to almost every main character from S1 to S6. Haley on the other hand, I felt like Mark would get rid of her from the show if he could. That's another level of dislike to me.

I wouldn't say he was, but considering how he reduced to how often to being in the center of love triangles Lucas was clearly Mark's second least favourite core character. BPN were clearly Mark's favourites imo

Nathan never got that great storylines either. You could argue that he has this thing with Dan, basketball storyline, etc, but they were all half assy done. Lucas also had other storylines other than being the center of love triangle, like his relationship and rivarly with Dan, problems with heart, mourning Keith, the writer career, the coach career. Sure they were badly done, and writers didn't really focus on them for more than five seconds, but were Nathan's storylines any different? But seriously, I don't think any of the character got a real focus except for Peyton and maybe Brooke in later seasons. And Mouth of course!

Neither Nathan or Lucas had well written storylines, but all of those love triangles were far worse and way more damaging to Lucas as an character than anything Nathan ever got imo.
Brooke may not have gotten focus at times, but the writers also never really called her out for her wrong doings for the way they did with the rest of the core. |

Sure, I agree that Lucas really got screwed from being in a love triangle. Most characters are, unfortunately. What's even worse is that love triangle lasted for years. And when Lindsay came along, it got even worse. :o
True Brooke was treated like a saint at times. One of the reasons I've never liked her. But to me it felt like writers just wanted to have another thing for Peyton to cry about and feel quilty. And that doesn't mean that Brooke's character got a lot of good storylines in early seasons __________________

No doubt, especially since it wasn't needed at all
Eh, I think Brooke getting a free pass just wasn't Peyton related imo. |

It wasn't needed, true.
I think in writers eyes it somehow was related. Peyton had to be the one to be self conscious and feel guilty for her actions (which was part of Marks big plan in making her life miserable), and she wouldn't feel that if her best friend was presented as the one who couldn't do anything wrong. Of course, if writers were good, they could've handled it better and actually realise Brooke also could be presented as someone with weaknesses but it looks to me that they just didn't care enough and/or weren't that smart to show both sides realistically. __________________
