I watched the first instalment of Childhood's End and it's everything I've hoped for, I love it! I might be bias as I was so excited when I heard the book was going to be made into a miniseries. But certainly didn't disappoint so far. You need to remember that this was written in 1953 and yet everything fits beautifully. It's also notable that most alien themed stories came after this one, and it's pretty much served as a basis for those.

(You can't skip past commercials if you record? Cause you can here.)

If it's other kind of streams you're looking for, it's already available. How else would I watch otherwise

If I watch when it airs on SyFy, I have to endure commercials. That's just the way it is over here.

You watched it without seeing the first part? I guess it still makes sense that way, though I love Ricky's story in the first one.

No Rita, I did watch Part 1 Monday night, even with commercials .. I guess I forgot to say so.

I see that SyFy has made episodes 3 & 4 of The Expanse available On Demand now, too. Might stay up and watch those after CE tonight and save Nashville for tomorrow.

They're introducing 2 new shows the same night?
Does SyFy have something good? It's a channel I avoid like the CW

Yes it does, Val. Dark Matter, Killjoys, the new The Expanse among others .. it's got a lot of hard-core SciFi now.
I'm gonna have a look at (another new series) The Magicians, too.

Rita, did you get to see it with no commercials? Here, they were atrocious - must've taken at least 30 minutes out of the show, just constant interruptions. I couldn't enjoy it at all.

Anyway, in spite of the lovely melody, I can't call the ending "beautiful" because it was so horrific.

Yes, I watched it without commercials. I'd imagine they'd be pretty detrimental to enjoying the storyline.

I understand both sides of the argument, it would be horrific to lose all what made us human, but at the same time, I'm quite sure evolution will take us closer to being one with the universe, though certainly not that fast. The 'beautiful' fits in tragically beautiful

I'll give you that point.

If you got a full 2 hrs of each episode, they must've cut huge amounts of it here to fit in the commercials.

The parts were of varying lengths but all under 2hrs.

It did feel rushed though, I think it would've been better if they've expanded the show to more episodes. Some explanations/conversations were missing.

The third part was really chopped up and I felt like there must be some important scenes missing.

If it comes to Netflix, I'll re-watch it without commercials and see if that helps.

For me, the first episode started rolling credits at 1:50 on the tape, and the last episode was just over an hour when the credits started. Not sure why they packaged it as 3 2 hour episodes. They certainly could have condensed some scenes to make it shorter, or added a few scenes to flesh out the story. Thought the ending seemed a bit rushed.
