It was so unnecessary to break these two up. Cordy could've been nicer to Buffy if the writers would've made Xandelia endgame.

I'm still adamant that they only broke up CX in Season 3 because the writers knew by the end of Season 2 that they would send Cordy over to Angel's show.
The way they did it though (the fling with Willow) made zero sense.  I would have believed something like Cordy breaking up with Xander because she had to leave town and she was ashamed of her home situation... I just hated the whole Xander/Willow thing. My least favorite thing in the BuffyVerse, next to Connor/Evil Cordelia.  __________________
