Hehe well, Hitchcock's movies are most likely the origin of nowadays' thrillers. Lots of tension and ambiguous characters. No Nikita, sure but still a lot of intriguing characters, especially female.

I'm going through 90ies movies these days. Just saw Immortal Beloved. Not sure why I never tried it before. I think I was in my Gary Oldman hating period when it was released.

I just learned today that Allison Janney was at the Deauville's Film Festival to present The Help
Why oh why do I know this after it happens???

Could you give me actual plots and characters? and btw I'm not impressed by a woman smoking/flirting with a man/slapping a man/wearing pants/speaking out of turn.

oh it's much more than that. I think you should watch Vertigo, it's even in colors. Plus James Stewart

Rope is quite interesting. Basically you have these two guys who just killed one of their schoolmates and are putting his corpse in a trunk in the middle of their living room. They killed him for no particular reason other than to see what it would be like and if they were up to it. They also invited his parents and his girlfriend to dinner to make it more interesting.

The whole movie is a play around their contempt for people they deem inferior and the theory that murder is acceptable if you're on top of the food chain. It's quite cynical actually. And there's a lot of tension regarding whether they are going to be found out.

That does sound alright if it's not too pretentious. Is it scary?

not by today's standards. It's tense but not scary.

I don't know, I never can choose just one favorite. But it's up there with Notorious and Rear Window and I'm probably forgetting another one
I haven't seen Birds and Psycho yet. What's your favorite Hitchcock?

Rope is not scary, if I think that everybody will It's very interesting. And one thing I don't think you care about but I find it fascinating is that the movie was made to make us think like it was all one big shot

I love Life Boat. And Rope. And a lesser known dark comedy called "The Trouble with Harry". And then I have a soft spot for Notorious and Marnie and Shadow of a Doubt... and I'll stop here

especially considering the technical obstacles at the time.

I saw a Brit movie called Attack the Block that everyone seems to be raving about and I'm still wondering what the big hoopla is about
It's like the super-hyped District 9. Really??
