It is weird. Sometimes it shows reality that luckily we didn't live in, but other times you realize that we still had not changed that much.

The show focuses around 5 women and they are the focus on the show. Men are mostly to complicate their lives or to cause the drama.

One of the women is married to a guy that cheated on her repeatedly. However she can't divorce him without losing her daughter as at that time the kids stay with the father. She was pregnant, he beat her and she lost the baby.

The female protagonist witness how a man killed her best friend. A male detective accused her of the murder and told her that she has two options - the death penalty or to steal for her. She of course chose the second option. So she started working in a telephone company. At that time there was no direct connection like now so they had women to connect and direct the calls. She started as such. It was interesting to see how the women mistreat each other in the company. I would say that this is a thing that we see even now.

Anyway it turned out that the boss is actually childhood friend of hers. They came to Madrid together, but some man stole her luggage. She tried to get it back, but the man accused of her stealing and she ended up in prison because you know at that time women were just below. So they lost touch. They meet each other again, but he is married. They kiss and the bad police guy takes a photo of the kiss and starts blackmailing her. She has to steal something else for the company. To do this she gets close to the son of the company's owner and basically starts relationship with him.

It's sad reality really because you know that we are lucky to not be born at that time. Still however a lot of people get disrespected like that and there is nothing they can do to help themselves.

I like the fact that there is show that not only focuses on women, but also focuses on the issues we have and on the way we could be mistreated.

This sounds really deep and intense, not to mention largely realistic. How far are you into the series?

There are only 8 episodes so far and I have watched 7 of them. I have one left to watch.

Indeed it is realistic. They are trying to portray as much as possible the issues women faced at that time. For example the married mistreated woman wanted to get money from the bank and she could not without her man's permission. Another woman was arrested because she attended feminist group gathering.

The main female character is basically taught by another woman to not care and close her heart, to use people and especially men to get what she wants. It's set in 1920, but sometimes feels not that far away from our time. And yes in other cases we see that we as a society evolved.

This sounds really intriguing. I'm always interested in exploring different time periods, especially ones I wasn't around to witness... or remember anyway since maybe I did have a life in that time period, lol.

But yes, this series sounds awesome. Do you see it concluding nicely with only one episode to go?

I actually in general do not watch period stuff as I get distracted by the setting and can't watch the story. In this case however I do not get distracted by it so it works.

This show would be renewed for at least another 8 episodes and I know for sure that the 8th episode ends with clifhanger.

No it's not. It's Netflix series. It's the first Spanish Netflix series. Basically the creators of this show had other two period TV shows and the Netflix execs liked them. So they contacted the creators and wanted them to work on such idea for TV show. And they started working on it.

The show does not have that many episodes, but that's kind of normal for Netflix shows anyway.

Yes, very true. I also find that some of the best shows have a limited episode per season count. Chesapeake Shores (the show I believe is the closest to Everwood in quality and feel I have ever encountered) in season 1 had only 9 episodes. Season 2 has only 10 episodes. The 100 has two seasons with 13 episodes, and two seasons with 16 episodes.

I appreciate this because it means every episode counts. You will typically not get filler episodes. I find that a series plays out more like a movie with a shorter episode count per season. Everything ties together very nicely. I think Netflix understands that this formula works. Less is more, quality over quantity.

You are right. Sometimes quantity goes over quality and that sucks.

I appreciate this because it means every episode counts. You will typically not get filler episodes. I find that a series plays out more like a movie with a shorter episode count per season. That's a good point. There is one problem though. I have short attention span and sometimes I could forget about shows. If the show has 10 episodes in season and then I have to wait a year for another 10 episodes I would have forgotten about it.

LOL I deal with this with both Chesapeake Shores and The 100. I actually do a quick rewatch of the season before the next season gets started.

My problem is a bit more serious . I don't just forget what happened in the show. I forget that the show exists .
