T S Eilot was antisemitic. I can do without his poetry.

I know he was - unfortunately not all talented people are good people at the same time. And currently I have to study his poetry anyway (official exam this Saturday, this is where the fun begins! xD) and it would be a lie to say that I don't appreciate its quality.

Ok. Just as long as nobody expects me to like him.
I mean, I value Dostoyevsky as a great writer and he was a raging antisemite, but I find his work more valuable than T S Eliot's. And if you go back far enough in time, just about every writer was probably an antisemite. I mean, Merchant of Venice, anyone? And Chaucer had a horrible antisemitic story in his Canterbury Tales, though he was medieval and probably everybody in medieval times was a raging antisemite, except maybe Wolfram von Eschenbach and a few other enlightened souls. Medieval people were scary. But T S Eliot doesn't have the excuse of being medieval or even Renaissance. Western civilization had gotten way too advanced by the 20th century for it to be producing the sort of antisemitism that popped up in the West in the 20th century. So I'll do without Eliot. I find him a poser as well as an antisemite (a lot of antisemites are). But enjoy him if you wish. It's your business. __________________

The only poetry I ever read in school was from Poe. And maybe Emily Dickinson.
Never read T.S. Eliot. Quote:

Poe is awesome. I'd have to read "The Black Cat."
I love "The Cask of Amontillado." That freaked me out, as well as reminded of Dark Shadows. One of it's stories was inspired by Poe's story. I also love "The Tell-Tale Heart." |

Great stuff. How about The Fall of the House of Usher? It's about how the rapper's house fell down.

Really?
I'll have to do a Poe re-read and read some ones I never read before. It's on the 2012 list. |

I've never read Poe, but your discussion made me interested.
Don't know the author of this art and never found it in bigger size, but I just love it |
