I don't know, is he actually considered a Lucasfilm employee? Most writers don't technically work for their publishing company except on a kind of freelance basis, correct? They do individual contracts for each body of work?

That is true. Writers are freelance workers..... so I guess the job will be given to someone who works for Lucasbooks in her department.

Carrie Fisher was on an episode of Weeds. She played a divorce attorney. I was actually a little disappointed, she wasn't fully utilized to her funny potential.

Not originally, but I stuck with it when I heard she was a guest star.
Weeds has very interesting and likable characters, but unfortunately the storyline doesn't do the individual characters justice. So it's a dilemma; I want to know what happens to the characters but am bored with the plot. A funny article/interview about Carrie: Carrie Fisher on her “Leia-laden life” Quote:
