What are everyone's thoughts on the video?

Quote:
Yeah, casting a Hispanic actor was ridiculous too, considering the character was supposed to be from India, but they did that sort of thing more back then.
But, wasn't Kahn not even an Earthling? So really, anyone can play him.

I thought the whole thing was really cool and impressive But it does seem like an incentive to go overboard with CGI which is something most SW fans don't want.

Original Chewbacca actor plans comeback for Star Wars Episode VII

The British actor who starred as Chewbacca, Han Solo's furry sidekick, in the original Star Wars films, has said he hopes to reprise the role in JJ Abrams' forthcoming Episode VII.

Peter Mayhew's announcement came after a casting call from the film's studio, Disney, and Abrams' production company for a seven-foot tall actor sparked suggestions that wookiees would play a part in the new film. Mayhew, who stood 2.13m (7ft 3 in) tall in his youth, says he is the man for the job. "I intend to pursue the role of Chewbacca for Episode VII," he told Bleedingcool.com, via a message from film-maker W Ryan Ziegler, who is making a documentary about the actor.

Mayhew, 69, has played Chewbacca in four Star Wars films – the original trilogy that ran between 1977 and 1983, and 2005 prequel Revenge of the Sith. It is not known whether Abrams has lined up a return for Chewbacca, but there have been persistent reports that Harrison Ford's Solo will make an appearance in the new film.

While Mayhew once famously revealed he only had to stand up to win the role, he is said to have developed a signature posture as Chewbacca (from observing large animals in captivity) that made his performances stand out. According to Star Wars legend, the actor was replaced temporarily by another tall man during filming of 1983's Return of the Jedi after falling ill. The stand-in was unable to emulate Mayhew's style and the scenes subsequently had to be reshot.

Fans of the series would no doubt love to see another iconic figure return to the long-running space saga after Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher also hinted they would be likely to return as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Mayhew, however, is currently recovering from knee surgery and might struggle to be ready for Abrams' shoot in London early next year. Ziegler's documentary Standing in the Stars: The Peter Mayhew Story, which examines the actor's life and struggle with gigantism, recently reached its funding target on Kickstarter.

Disney is to release a new trilogy of Star Wars films from 2015 – as well as a series of standalone origins movies that could feature characters from the original trilogy – after buying all rights to the series through its acquisition of LucasFilm for $4.05bn (£2.5bn) in October last year.

In the remake he was from another planet.

I thought the same.

We'll see what they do.

He wasn't. He was from Earth. He'd just been lost in space and rediscovered. His backstory in the remake is the same as in the original Trek, because the events took place before the split in reality that split off the rebooted Trek universe from the original one. His first appearance the original Trek was not in the '80s movie The Wrath of Khan. Rather it was the 1967 Trek episode Space Seed, where his origin is explained.

It's also worth noting, re the ethnicity of the actors, that while the original actor was Hispanic he was not descended from many generations of Hispanics of mixed white/Native descent, his parents being immigrants from Spain. Khan has never been acted by a non-white actor and he should have been, considering his surname is Singh, which is an Indian name. Both in the '60s/'80s and in the modern film the part should have been given to an actor of Indian background. American Sikhs (Sikhs are a group originating in India) were offended by the casting in the recent film.

Producer and screenwriter Robert Orci came out with the following lame excuse for the casting in the new film: "Basically, as we went through the casting process and we began honing in on the themes of the movie, it became uncomfortable for me to support demonizing anyone of color, particularly any one of Middle Eastern descent or anyone evoking that. One of the points of the movie is that we must be careful about the villain within US, not some other race."

So now you can't have villains who aren't white? That's as ridiculous as having villains who are only non-white. And since when does "within US" mean only white people? Are all the people of the world white? Or if he's referring to the West or America, are all the people of the West or America white? Are all the people who watched the fim white? His attitude shows a shocking assumption of the universality of whiteness or of the irrelevance of non-whites. He's whitewashing non-whites out of the audience and out of all all groups where they're included with whites. That's hugely offensive. Is the film supposed to speak only to whites and be seen only by whites? Should the cinemas have had "No non-whites please" signs up? Surely the "US" should be the human race, or maybe the West or America (if that's what the Federation in Trek represents), and those are all groups that include both whites and non-whites. His approach is hardly inclusive to say the least, and Star Trek is supposed to be all about inclusiveness. He's managed to make something offensive even more so with a goobbledeegook pseudo-politically correct excuse. Now I'm even more pissed off about the casting!

And btw, will somebody tell him that India (which the name Singh is native to) is NOT in the Middle East.

Star Trek isn't the point. Blatant racism is the point. And I'd like an opinion on Orci's comments from everybody on this thread.
