"Darth Vader is the central character of the Star Wars saga, appearing as one of the main antagonists of the original trilogy and as the main protagonist of the prequel trilogy. The films establish that there was originally a Jedi Knight named Anakin who fell to the dark side of the Force; he is also revealed to be the father of both Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa. After turning to the Dark Side, Vader is a ruthless henchman of Emperor Palpatine; he secretly intends to overthrow Palpatine to establish himself as ruler of the Empire. Vader is ultimately revealed to have personal honor when he sacrifices himself to save his son, Luke."

Thanks for starting. :)

hello baby

Who's a baby?

wickedrum 01-10-2017 11:24 AM

Vader. Never mind.

I'll explain.

They say that the real reason behind women so often falling for racing drivers is their helmets. No, really. Because it makes their heads look big comparing to their bodies, just like the way it would be with babies, disproportionally with bigger heads. So because women are predisposed to feel for babies and take care of them on an anthropological level, they are also predisposed to fall in love with racing drivers, bikers, ie people with helmets.

So Vader, helmet, baby.

People are always coming out with stupid theories like that. I don't credit them. Theories like that about women kind of make a mockery of women. And take Tar here, she can't stand babies, but she likes Vader fine. (No offense meant, Rita, I just feel strongly about theories that stereotype women. :) )

wickedrum 01-13-2017 08:06 AM

that's not a stereotype, it's an evolutionary necessity, otherwise humankind would have died out a thousand times over. Of course it doesn't apply to all women, it's just a tendency.

sum1 01-13-2017 09:13 AM

Theories like this are tossed around all the time and many of them contradict each other. They cite dubious "proof", but such theories can generally find whatever "proof" they want to prove whatever they want, whether true or false. People build such theories on old stereotypes in their attempt to find reassuring proof of what society has always told them. So yeah, it's a stereotype.

The evolutionary necessity is for women to be attracted to men, not babies. Yes there is an evolutionary necessity for women to feel for babies but that is a very different and separate thing. Perhaps some women confuse their interest in men with their interest in babies, but to try to suggest it is a general trend is to engage in grossly demeaning stereotyping. There are far more obvious reasons why some women are attracted to racing drivers or Darth Vader and it has nothing to do with babies. Certainly Darth Vader is in no way reminiscent of a baby. Women are not just machines for producing and caring for babies and they have other things that motivate them.

Now I suggest we agree to disagree and drop this discussion and get back to the topic of the thread. ;)

Yeah I hate babies and love Vader (and men) Also zero maternal instinct when it comes to kids, just cats.

wickedrum 01-13-2017 01:55 PM

more and more women are like that and that also makes sense to me in evolutionary terms because we are overpopulating and so it is beneficial for the female gender's maternal instinct to be turned down for a while. Also, I think the number of gay people has been on the rise for the same reason, it is nature's way of ensuring optimum amount of population.

I believe that pretty much everything can be explained based on evolutionary genetics.

I disagree with a big chunk of that but I don't want us to get too off topic :) So here's something for us to stare at:
