I want to smash his ipod but I know it'll make him explode. He's supposed to be selling his uncle's apartment - his uncle died 2 years ago- and it hasn't gotten done because he takes no initiative. And then he takes it out to dinner with us and, like a child, instead of engaging in conversation he's on his ipod.

Dang, seems like such a waste of money. Why don't you two go live in the apartment? I'm assuming there's no rent to be paid, right? Or is it in a weird area?

It's in a really, really, really good area. The maintenance fees are through the roof, though. And because my dad has to split the money with 7 other people, they rather sell than keep it in the family.

Seven other people? Is this one of those places where 10 people share a two-bedroom apartment in order to afford the rent?

He has to split with 4 brothers & 2 cousins.
I'm pretty sure all the people who live in that neighborhood are doctors, lawyers, and stock brokers, so no sharing necessary.
My great uncle purchased the place back in the 1970s, so the lesson is if you want to afford a nice neighborhood, get a time machine and buy a place then.

Eh, I'd rather live in a house, a detached one, rather than an apartment. I'd feel like a sardine, stuck in the same can with others. I want my own can!

His area is very nice. Everything is accessible and the view is iconic.

I'm one of those that's indifferent to views. If I don't like the house, I don't care about the view. Like the last house Mr. Louisiana was renting was a nasty ass, rundown house from the 1950s. He loved the ocean view, even though he hated the deplorable house. I couldn't care less about the ocean view. I want a modern house with all the amenities from this millennium.

So if there was a beautiful, perfect house next to a landfill then you wouln't mind?

Shame the 1950s house wasn't taken better care of. It could've become a historical landmark.

I believe there are laws against building homes next to a landfill here. No landfills in the suburbs.

Now it'll be knocked down and a modern multi-story home will be built overlooking the ocean.
