I think Ariel is the most disturbing Disney princess ever
really? is it b/c she's a stalker who has no self worth?
I still want to read the original Little Mermaid story even if it's depressing b/c sometimes I like really depressing stories.

For me it would be like seeing an SW prequel just about Han. Interesting, but definitely not the same.

when you put it that way, the POTC movie sounds even worse.

Yea, actually. That was kind of eerie, what you just did.

Why do you find Ariel disturbing?
What Vic said, but also I see it this way: imagine a woman in our time, in our world, who drastically and severely changed her physical appearance to be with a man. It's a very disturbing thought.

Oops.

Oh, so you're looking at Ariel's wanting legs as extreme plastic surgery and an eating disorder.

And then there's that.

Gotta say, now I'm starting to wonder why I like Ariel so much. I guess I just focused on the fact that the girl had an amazing set a pipes. And she was willing to give that up for true love. Which, is... actually kind of pathetic if I really think about it. Maybe she doesn't have any good qualities. But, at least she's rebellious!

Are the other Disney Princesses this disturbing?

Yes to the first part, but not so much an eating disorder.

That's a really good point too.

Not as disturbing, but definitely weird when you think about it.

I think Princess Jasmine is pretty cool. And Tiana, from the newest movie, The Princess and the Frog.

IDK if I'm going to see it b/c the 3rd one sort of bored me.
Finding the Fountain of Youth.

You know what I loved about Pirates 3? That Elizabeth Swan became the Pirate King

I do love The Little Mermaid. The songs were, are, gold.
But perhaps Belle is the best Disney Princess. She was well read and was feisty.

It's like, I know Ariel has issues, but I still love her.

it is a good thing that Eric accepted her, though, right? He saw her become a mermaid and didn't reject her. Instead he still fought for her.

as much as I love Han, he needs Luke and especially Leia to be complete.

Ariel had an amazing voice and amazing hair.
And I do like how she's rebellious. But I do think it's sad how she needed to leave her family at the end, and I laugh that in the (non-canon) sequel, her daughter wanted to be a mermaid.

Like Steph said, Belle was awesome. I don't see any flaws with her. But she wasn't born a princess, so does she still count as a Disney princess?

Same here.

Ah, the irony! It was kind of fitting, though.

Belle was pretty cool. She was just a victim of circumstance.

I just love that little girls today still love the classic Disney films like Littler Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Hand drawn movies can still be loved.

Who needs a Prince? I think that, right there, is actually the worst message of all these Disney Princess movies-- that in order to be happy you need to find "your Prince."

As a single lady, Disney movies can be quite depressing.

Has anyone ever written a paper about the affect Disney has on a person's desire to find "Mr. Right" or how it makes marriage fail b.c it doesn't show that marriage takes work?

I am sure there are books on that subject.

I'd read a book on that subject if it wasn't written in an extremely boring way.

That Twilight and History book talks a bit on that Disney Princess subject in one of the articles. Want to read it?
