why do you think the 'Trekkie' phenomena has become a cultural success?

why do you think the 'Trekkie' phenomena has become a cultural success? this is in aid of a university assignment and so any opinion would be greatly welcomed xx

Hi Emma,

I'm about to sign off for the night, but I have time for a short response. Basically, I think the Trek franchise shows a hopeful future, where humans have overcome prejudice, wars amongst themselves, and are spreading the human race throughout the galaxy. I think that's what appeals to people. Oh, and gadgets like tranporters and replicators would be really cool to have in real life.
