I think that's pretty much true where all captains fall somewhere on the favorites lists and easier to not rank them love each of them for their own reasons and its impossible to compare cause of how they are all different to each other

Tim Russ fought for Tuvok to get more backstory in eps wherever he could. In one episode in particular (wish I could remember it rn), his lobbying got Tuvok a whole monologue about his life before Voyager. The writer wrote it into the script during shooting the ep, IIRC. Tim thought he'd get a line or two, but he was happy to get basically a scene centered on Tuvok's backstory. The episode where Seven goes back in time to the Excelsiorin ST: 6 is really cool. We get to see Tuvok's early career in Starfleet as well as way more of Sulu's role as a captain in the events of ST: 6. __________________

I'm glad that Russ fought one of the most important things about a character is that exact thing backstory with how am always a curious and I feel backstory really helps to deepen and develop a character

Overall the various Treks have been good to give us backstory about characters, and develop friendships between crew members, but there's always somebody that could be fleshed out more.

That is good to know. Having backstory for the characters really makes them come alive.

I've read in quite a few interviews with (or memoirs by) actors who share how much they had to fight for their character either to stay consistent or be fleshed out or to get more than a line per episode. Sometimes it works out quite well, as with Spock and Tuvok and Janeway, and sometimes it gets an actor fired (like Gates McFadden).

Fired? Is that why she wasn’t in season 2 of TNG?
