Or perhaps he was tired after staying up all night with one of his alien encounters of the third kind.

Certainly a viable possibility with Kirk.

I believe that creature was called a Gorn? It is to bad they did not update that species after the show had money for costumes and special effects.

Oh, but they did. When Star Trek: Enterprise visited the mirror universe and Captain Archer found himself on the bridge of a Constitution class Defiant, the crew learned that there was a Gorn aboard causing trouble. I didn't really care for the update, honestly.

Almost too bad I did not watch those two episodes when I had Enterprise on my computer. Almost.

Isn't part of the appeal the budget conscious special effects? To me, George Lucas got totally carried away with CGI when he decided to tweak Star Wars. I much preferred the original version.

I never found the budget-constrained special effects appealing. I was always amazed at how good they were considering what little Roddenberry had to work with, but never considered them appealing. The Gorn would have benefited from the small level of modification that made the Klinglons, Romans and Andorians much more interesting.

Interesting combination of pictures there.

Not sure why, but the salt & pepper shakers on the tray in the second pic amuse me.
