I love slow burn relationships. I also love watching couples work through their problems.

Agreed. I really enjoyed watching this relationship develop, then watching as they worked through their issues. It all seemed very realistic.

Exactly. Writers seem to like to establish couples, then break them up. Which I suppose gives drama to storylines., but it just annoys fans.

TV writers often don't seem to know how to write character-developing conflict for an in-love, intact couple. But if each party of a couple is interesting as an individual, and together their dynamic ultimately inspires the other person to grow and change -- and brings out different aspects of each other -- organic story arcs galore. Tom and B'Elanna definitely have that chemistry and conflicts that arise naturally from who they are and, most importantly, the love to work through them.

Well said Lisa. Maybe it helped that each had been established as a strong individual before they got together, so the writers could go back to that inner strength to show them working through their issues while remaining true to the individuals they were.

Yes, B'Elanna and Tom are both well-developed/-written characters, so we're interested in them regardless of whatever relationships they might be in. Their relationship is an extension of their individual development, and the writers understood that and wrote to that.
