I think this was always meant to show humanity had evolved into something better and was always shown to be morally superior to all other races. I mean humans were always open minded, progressive, helpful, tolerant etc, while most alines where quite racist, bigotted, brutal and pretty backwoods in their ideas throughout the show especially the species not associated with the federation and only certain indviduals that had contact with humans would change and bring superior human moral ideas to their worlds (I just say rom as ferengi or garak as cardassian). Which of course, as much as I love star trek, was quite biased. Though there were certain episodes that showed humans to be corrupt especially in later tng or ds9 epiosdes. Especially corrupt admirals.

Me neither. I realized that there was limited conflict between the characters, but figured that was due to mutual respect and professionalism.

thanks for bringing that over LightYears.:)

Ok among the crew itself it was likely mostly that, professionals having mutual respect. And while I think showing a little bit of conflict in certain situations I hope they won't make this some sort of soap in space. They should show conflict in scenes where it makes sense, but not make the crew a bunch of drama queens (and kings).

I see your point and yes, humans are depicted as having evolved to be more tolerant. However, they also often took the opportunity to acknowledge bigotry, etc in humanity's past.
