I'd have liked if it took place between TOS and TNG. There were many references about the time inbetween in TNG and DS9. About conflicts/contacts with the romulans, the cardassians or the Tzenkethi or the Breen. Or they could've made some stories about the gorn. I mean we had so much about the klingons already, that I'd have much preferred to get a closer look at one of the other species than again the clingons. I mean yes many of these species get further examined in the official canon books, but I'd have liked to see it on screen. But maybe the books are the reason why cbs/paramount desided to not do any further stories about these species.

Agree that I'd rather them focus on something other than the Klingons since we already know quite a bit about them. And I'm not sure what to think of the new look for the Klingons.
