I'm seeing it more as a bromance, but yeah, it's definitely a huge part of the storyline.

I rather like the Spock/Uhura dynamic, so bromance for me. The strength of their friendship is an integral part of the storyline. Brash, impulsive Kirk needs the cool, logical Spock to keep him in check.

And it's good for Spock to think outside of regulations sometimes.
Their friendship is the thing I enjoyed most in the movies.

Definitely. Or at least be able to acknowledge that following the rules to the letter doesn't lead to the best outcoume in every situation.

Well said. Kirk needs Spock to hold him back, as much as Spock needs Kirk to push him sometimes.
