how has the 'trekkie' phenomena been stereotyped and minipulated by the media?

how has the 'trekkie' phenomena been stereotyped and minipulated by the media? this is in aid of a university assignment and so any opinion would be greatly welcomed xx

Hi Emma,

The 'typical' Trekkie as portrayed in the media would be a single male. My experience here is that most fans are female. While it's true that our site is dominated by females, only a slight minority of the males who post at the forums come to this board. And I don't think that you need to be a computer geek to enjoy Star Trek ... I'm certainly not.
