The Delta Quadrant War, read and comment.

Please post your opinions and comments about the following. I know that some of you may not like the war trend in trek. So comments relating to that should be with held.

I have lots of details to workout, like the mode of travel to the delta quadrant and a MUCH better name for the WMD starfleet employs.
This is a draft._

The Delta Quadrant War: 2391-2394

War fought between the United Federation of Planets and an alliance of over 68 sovereign governments throughout the galaxy, led by Fleet Admiral Alexander Harling.

Hostilities began on June 6th 2391, with an unprovoked attack on Earth by two cubes of a rouge “collect” of the Borg. The attack left over 2 million dead and the destruction of Stardock - leading to the majority of the casualties. Tragically the Federation President Maya Santiago, and her staff were killed onboard.

After losing almost an entire battle group to the Borg’s infamous adapting technologies, the attack was repelled by Starfleet using a fleet made up of 5 new classes of ships. Utilizing the new ships and then mysterious new technology, quickly dispatching both cubes.

After the attack, Vice President William McKinley took office as the 60th President of the United Federation of Planets. And in an address to the Federation Council, he made a presentation with Fleet Admiral Alexander Harling, and Special Agent Wyle of Section 31. In this presentation, they unveiled the new ships and weapons. And Section 31’s intelligence revealing the state of the Borg Collective, also revealing the Borg had lost its use of Transwarp. Shortly after, the Council voted in favor of war 275-25. The 25 worlds voting against were led by Councilor Abilene Christian of Alpha Centauri, and would present a major difficultly in the coming years, leading to Civil War.

Weeks later Klingon, Romulan, and Breen officials pledge support, President Santiago was meeting with delegates from those worlds at the time of the attack. This was expected from the Klingons, but not from Romulus.

The news spread like wild fire through the entire quadrant. With several smaller powers pledging support, mostly in sympathy of the high percentage of civilian deaths and the promise of victory shown by the Federations technology.

Four weeks after the attack, the Bajoran Wormhole open and a hail was received by Deep Space 9. A Dominion ship requested to come through. After docking at DS9, Starfleet reported that the Dominion were being attacked by the Borg almost daily. Dominion leaders learned that a massive invasion was to take place, and wished to join. However, in exchange, Starfleet would have to release its technology to the Dominion. The Federation, already having done so to its accumulated allies, did so. However, Starfleet asked for one more thing…..detailed information on all of the Dominion territory, ships, and current leaders.

The Alliance was complete, and preparations were underway. The Gamma Quadrant allies would fight their way through the Borg collects, and join the Alpha and Beta Quadrant Allies at a certain point in Borg Territory.

The war was fought over 3 years culminating in Borg Sector 953 with the destruction of the Borg Omni Complex and capture of the Borg Queen.

The Federation owes its victory over the Borg due a rapid decline in power across the Borg Collective. This due to the aftereffects of the return of the USS Voyager in 2378. (See Report 74656-762)

The effects were so immense, 13 years passed and the Borg Queen was still unable to reunite her collective. By 2391 the Borg were shattered into hundreds of “collects”. Unable to counter the neuro-virus, the collects rejected many attempts to reinsert into the hive mind.

However, the Queen still controlled over 13,000 vessels. But her fault was her obsession with reuniting the collective in lieu of rebuilding simultaneously.

When the Federation invaded, she was completely unaware of the attack on Earth that left over 2 million dead. She was also unaware that Starfleet had been preparing anti-Borg technologies for over 10 years. The research that led to Type M Phasers, Gravimetric torpedoes, and Multi-Grid Shielding, was started shortly after Voyager returned to Earth, led none other by the then Commander Alexander Harling.

The Alliance devastated the forces she still controlled. Without the resources of a united collective, she was helpless to counter the new technology. It was so effective, Starfleet could disable a cube in minutes. However, the only Borg strength during the war was its Tactical cubes. The armor it bore limited penetration of all torpedoes.

The Federation made quick progress by spreading out its armada into a four prong attack. In addition several small flotillas attacked the Borg targets from other points. This confused Borg, leading them to believe there were forces attacking from several fronts.

The queen rallied her forces at the exact halfway point between the edge of Borg space and her Omni-Complex, the heart of the Collective. And beyond that lied Planet 020A, the homeworld of the once completely organic Borg.

The war reached a stalemate in late 2392, the Borg mobilized 1/ 2 its forces and began making counter-offenses concentrating at the Federation lines. However this stalemate was broken when Starfleet unveiled its key to the war. Dutronic Missiles. Roughly the size of 5 quantum torpedoes, it was a weapon of mass destruction. The Borg were successful in turning the tide in the war due to mass fleets of cubes. Overpowering Federation lines by shear numbers. Just before engaging the Borg, X number of specially modified fighters would lead the fleet and fire the missiles at the Borg fleet. The missile would detonate in between Borg lines.

The effects were detrimental. Entire ships were annihilated and those in the proximity were fatally disabled. This greatly leveled the playing field and essentially clinched victory for the Alliance.

Federation forces pushed further with the aid of its new weapon.
The culminating at the Battle of Sector 953, where the Borg made its last stand. Although the Queen controlled still thousands of vessels, her time was up. The mass confusion of the four prong attack, and the loss of the Transwarp network created vast distances in which by the time her forces arrived to help, it was too late.

The battle of S953 was started with a new tactic by the Federation, immediately following the launch of Dutronic Missiles, Starfleet and Allied forces quickly “chased” the missiles behind a calculated “safe zone” of the ensuing blast, while simultaneously firing a spread of torpedoes to offset the Borg’s tactic of trying to shoot down the missiles.

After the blast had dissipated the Borg had no time to react to the charge of Alliance forces. The ensuing battle lasted for over 2 hours. And in the end the whole Federation Alliance had suffered losses of 30%. The Borg with an abysmal 81%.

The war ended with the taking of the Omni-Complex and “arrest” of the Borg Queen by Section 31 Paramilitary Assault teams. She was unwilling to destroy the remaining ships under her control. After engineering an interface to the hive, auto-destruct was initiated throughout the remaining ships.

The last challenge was what to do with the remaining Collects. Forces of the Hirogen vowed to hunt down every ship. With several other Delta Quadrant governments agreeing to the same. The Federation would deploy several thousand sensor probes to scour the quadrant. But it would take years to complete the search. Dominion forces would establish patrols along the Gamma Quadrant border with Klingon forces on the Beta Quadrant border.

With over half the collective being destroyed in 2379 with the efforts of Admiral Janeway, as many as 30,000 ships in hundreds of collects still exist.
These collects may form their own goals, but hopefully not the same as the former collective. That remains to be seen.

Other than supplying probes to search the quadrant, Starfleet would contribute to the effort more once the Civil War was ended back in the Alpha Quadrant.

THE AFTERMATH OF THE WAR

Once Federation forces returned home, they put a quick end to the Rebellion, invading the Rebel seat of government, Alpha Centauri. (Civil War summary 98-1020)

Rebel President Abilene Christian, and her staff were arrested in the attack, the arrest of Fleet Admiral Jorvec Nagavanchi would be made days later when he and his ship the USS Los Angeles was found.

The USS Los Angeles was the second Challenger Class ship to be built, after the USS Challenger that lead the Federation to victory in the Delta Quadrant.

Its true power was felt as a task force of 15 ships were dispatched to make the arrest. All alone, the Los Angeles wreaked havoc on its pursuers. That included most notably 3 Sovereign, and 2 Concordia class vessels.
The arrest was made, but not before half the task force was either destroyed or disabled, with the remaining ships needing its own extensive repairs.

The Court proceedings have still yet to be released, but it is assumed that several hundred will do time in correctional facilities, and thousands more will lose their commissions in Starfleet for participating, albeit under orders, in the Rebellion.

As of 2395, The Federation is regarded as the lone superpower in the Alpha Quadrant, even as it attempts to create balance between its allies.

FURTHERMORE

The effects of the war were felt by all. Most notably, the commander of all forces in the Delta Quadrant, Fleet Admiral Alexander Harling. He lost his wife, son, and eldest daughter.

His wife was captain of the USS Victoria, which was destroyed while distracting a group of Borg ships while a dozen allied ships retreated.
Earning her the Christopher Pike Medal of Honor. (Awarded posthumously)

The war significantly drained the resources of the Alpha Quadrant powers, however the Federation emerged from this drainage due to its massive ship building program. Before the war, its was thought that Starfleet would need massive reinforcements, so building continued through the world.

By wars end, the Federation had enough ships to recover half of its losses. Although there was a strain of officers to crew them.

Hi Harling. Welcome to Fan Forum. There's a thread for fan fiction here. I'm going to copy your post over there and close this.
