I think this shows how Buffy clearly outgrown Angel and unlike TV series made seem Clear Angel is past and she loved/s Spike and Angel at different points of her life and in different ways for people making out Angel is only man she could love and is the love of her life etc, imo Angel relationship was put on a pedestal by buffy and the viewers and tried make out she did not love Spike because she tried to deny her feelings for Spike for a long time and unfair to compare her love for Angel and Spike.

I think it was pretty clear Angel was her past in Chosen when she sent him away & chose Spike as her champion.

I don't see Buffy giving the same speech to Spike about being cookie dough b/c she had already alluded to wanting to explore a relationship with him.

The comics just make it look more that Buffy was trying to let Angel down easy since she chose Spike to have a happy/healthy relationship with not Angel.

This moment is Iconic! Spike did what no other vampire would when he fought for his soul.
