btw, we were discussin on tumblr about the popularity of the couples. In this case, jate and skate. I think jate had always the bigger fanbase, but my friend believes everyone and their mothers loved skate after so3, what do you think?

i think after s03 jate was always the biggest fanbase, what i think it changed was the media's pov about skate. They were their favorite couple to promote the show and yes, that helped for skate's popularity..but c'mon we were always the underdogs.

i think this is because of the difference of age between the jate/skate fanbase.

I was a bit late to Lost so I don't really know which couples were more or less popular and whether or not the tastes of internet fans corresponded with people who didn't discuss the show online.

When I was catching up and reading/watching some older interviews, I was pleasantly surprised to see for example Damon Lindeloff's mother and Josh Holloway's high school teacher mention their interest in Sawyer and Kate's relationship.

As for the media, I don't know. Some of them seemed to be pushing Sawyer/Juliet too hard and now I kind of see them as fans with a bigger platform, but strangely with the ability to influence the writers and storylines.

Back when Lost was on air I didn't have internet nor a desire to contribute to fandom arguments (inadvertently subjecting myself to this kind of experience later on once the show already ended but that's a whole different story) however, my friends who watched it with me basically divided into two camps regarding their Jate vs. Skate preferences hence the idea of a vaguely established equality between the two fanbases was pretty much embedded in my mind. Even now, having witnessed all of the online discussions I can't say with certitude which fanbase was bigger.

The gifsets are stunning And Lindsey, the amount of favourite couples and favourite scenes we have in common is pretty impressive

You know, as a Skate fan, I never actually felt like we were in the minority until Suliet happened and then all of sudden it was like people that were once on board with Skate were jumping ship and also jumping on the Jate bandwagon. I remember Skate winning every single poll for years and then when they introduced Suliet all of a sudden things changed.

I knew that it was probably a long-shot that Kate would end up with Sawyer but things were looking good there for a little while. I mean, for Christ's sake, Sawyer jumped out of a freaking helicopter for her. How do you even get more epic than that?? It all still boggles my mind.

To me, when Sawyer/Kate finally got off the Island, they did end up together. Who cares about some purgatory church or whatever the fck that was.

It's also worth mentioning that polls don't necessarily accurately indicate popularity or directly reflect preferences of the faction of the audience that isn't active online.

Admittedly, I have sworn off television for now choosing to take a prolonged - or maybe even everlasting - break from it seeing as truth be told my experience with being a dedicated viewer of various shows has been negative and emotionally draining more often than not due to anguishing contrivance and predictably/lazily structured storylines that in the end of the day made me deviate from most of the shows or flat out despise them (in all honesty the last show that didn't leave me in a state of infinite and overflowing annoyance and disappointment was Buffy and it has been over 10 years since then...) but DAMN. GoT is seemingly insisting on me giving it a try And all of the reasons you have listed are exceptionally convincing
