For various reasons it seems like Whitney could not really admit mistakes or pick things up with people if there had been some parting of the ways. In her Esquire article Robyn Crawford says she felt it was because Whitney had a hard time holding it together as it was and might crack up if she let herself feel some of the pain involved. The PDA between Whitney and Kevin in later years shows they never lost their connection and I've always felt there was a lot more going on between them than what people saw. But she was mobbed up with a pack of enablers and hadn't gotten free of that.
