Mel: Do you know the origin of the term graveyard shift?
Jim: I thought you weren't speaking to me.
Mel: Back in england in the 1500s,i think,they discovered that they'd been burying people
sometimes that they only thought were dead. So they started burying them with a little
string tied around their wrist that led up through the ground, you know,to a bell that sat in the grass by their grave. And then someone from the village had to stay up all night waiting for a bell to ring. Graveyard shift. Dead ringer.
Mel: This is the kind of tidbit you're gonna miss if you stay mad at me.
Jim: You were mad at me.
Mel: Still am. A little.
Jim: Mel,i can't stand it when things aren't right with us.
Mel: I don't like it when you treat me like I'm a child.

Mel: Jim, come on, I can take it. Spit it out, was she beautiful?
Jim: She's drop dead gorgeous, she looks like a model.
Mel: A simple yes would have done.

Jim: Have I told you how glad I am that you're back?
Mel: You can show me.

Deja Boo (2x13)
Jim: I'm not sure how I feel.
Mel: Me either.
(looks at her and with a very loving voice says)
Jim: I do know one thing.
Mel: what?
Jim: I'm ready . . . No matter what's ahead for us, I'm ready to go down any road with you, go through any door. I know that now more then I ever did!
Mel: That's all I need.
(she starts to cry)

Mel: Does this mean anything to you: 190206?
Jim: What's left on our mortgage?
Mel: No.
Jim: Last plumber's bill?
Mel: No again.

Mel: Why is it so much harder when you're trying to get lost?
Jim: You're doing great, I have no idea where we are.



The Cradle Will Rock (2x16)
Mel: You bought me roses.
Jim: Dr. Phil encourages the occasional romantic gesture.
Mel: It's a signal, from Randy.
Jim: Thought it was a signal from me saying, "I love my crazy wife."
Mel: I just– I wonder what it means.
Jim: It means Randy owes me fifty bucks.

No Safe Place (3x04)
(He whispers in her ear and walks to the door)
Jim: And ah..you know where to find me.
Mel: I know you are not about to take that peanut butter up into my bed.
Jim: Ah no...no! I was gonna take this peanut butter up into my bed!

First Do No Harm (3x12)
(Melinda gets home and hears Jim talking)
Jim: Are you here, huh? I wish I knew. I don't even know if you can hear me, but... I want to tell you that I'm sorry. If there was anything else, I could have tried, if there was any way to save you, I would have done it, I promise. But you... you were so badly hurt. I knew you were gonna die, I could see it in your eyes. (Melinda is hiding in the hallway) Leaving you there...like that was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I'm not real good at this. My wife would know what to say to you. She knows how to handle grief, she knows how to handle loss. Me, not so much. For so many people... she knows how to make a difference. I'm not sure I do, in the grand scheme of things, but... Look, for whatever it's worth, accept my apology for what it is. If you want to punish me, here I am. But do not take it out on the people around me or the people I love.
(Melinda walks down the stairs slowly and shuts the door so he could hear her get inside)

Jim: Mel, there's a thing that happened. Um... uh... it's called an embolism - it's a technical term and you don't need to know about it.

Threshold (4x07)
Mel: I' am so empty without you
Jim: oh I'm here and I'm not going anywhere

Mel: It's not fair for me to keep you here
Jim: your not keeping me here, I'm keeping me here
Mel: Well then its not fair for me to make you stay
Jim: Melinda, why would we not be together if we can
Mel: Cause were not together, we can't be, not in the real world

Mel: I'd be happy never leaving this house again if i could be with you. alive or dead, but you a Journey to take, so do I. We just can't be together right now that's all, it's our fork in the road until we meet again over on your side.
Jim: My Road, My Journey is with you. . . Its IS you! It's always been that way.

Mel: Maybe she was scared, so scared that her whole life she would never be truly loved, not completely, not for really who she was. Maybe now she see's that she was loved in that way and that it was real and that once you've had that kinda love it never goes away. . . It just gets stronger!



Heart and Soul (4x08)
Mel: The last Conscious decision my husband made was to risk everything just to be with me, I am not going to turn my back on that. . . .No he took a chance out of love and out of loyalty for the one person who meant everything to him, even though he know it doesn't make any sense. That is what Love is!

Jim: You've be amazingly supportive, but its just weird...I mean I don't even know you and suddenly I'm moving into your place and then whats even weirder is how I feel when were together.
