I hated what Mark Schwahn did with Dan. Having him kill Keith destroyed things forever. Worst off, they waited until AFTER he killed Keith to finally reunite Dan and Karen (thus dooming the relationship).


Honestly, this show became such an awful joke after Season 2. I remember in the cast commentary for the Season 1 finale on the DVD, they all talked about wanting to see Dan and Karen finally get back together.

I am not sure if I ship them 100 percent, but they were intriguing.

Mark definitely made a lot of mistakes storyline wise and having Dan kill Keith was one of the biggest imo.

Yeah same here, and they did have great chemistry too.

It sucks that the writers didn't play on their chemistry more, at least outside season 4.

I do like these two. He did a lot in season 4 for her. It's too bad he called Keith, but he started to redeem himself.

I didn't get the logic behind having Dan murder Keith either and I doubt I ever will tbh.

I'm surprised Paul Johansson stuck around for that, to be honest. Turning him into a murderer was basically the beginning of the end.


It definitely destroyed any hope of him and Karen getting back together. The cast during Season 1 had all said they wanted to see Dan & Karen together at some point



Mark Schwahn did many things wrong in this show, and this was one of them.


Dan already did something amazing in Season 1 when he saved Keith and Lucas from the car crash. Karen acknowledged that. Yet they turned him into J.R. Ewing from Season 2 onwards and had him do/say evil things so that the whole cast would hate him

Me too, especially since they didn't really know what to do with him in seasons 5 and 6 especially.

I always hated how cartoonish Dan felt in S2 and it was one of my biggest dislikes of S2 as an whole for me.

Yes, it was the Season 1 finale commentary. Chad, Sophia, Joy, James and Hilarie did one together and so did Paul, Moira, The younger cast kept giggling when the Deb/Keith sex scene happened and they said they hoped Dan and Karen would get together in either Season 2 or beyond that.

Yes. He is just hell-bent on revenge when he wakes up in S2 - first against Deb (understandably), then against Lucas... Speaking of which, I hated that Lucas and Andy teamed up against Dan

Absolutely agree. Dan had always said in rare emotional moments to Deb that he married her for the money, whereas he truly regretted leaving Karen because he loved her for HER.

Paul did the best job he did with the material, but material was serious awful for Dan. Seeing Lucas play detective sucked big time imo and ruined any potential Lucas/Dan had that season.

Think it's pretty obvious that either Dan and Deb truly loved each other and only stayed together for as long as they did because of Nathan.

They tried too hard to turn Dan into JR Ewing from Dallas. It backfired terribly, mostly because OTH was a totally different show and Dallas was a different era.

Plus, JR would never have shot his own brother. He had huge fall-outs with Bobby, but never serious enough to consider hurting him.

Yes, and it's definitely talked about in the Season 1 finale. Dan admits to Deb that Karen was " a girl I loved very much", and he would have catered his career around their relationship... But then he found out Deb was pregnant and it made him rethink the whole thing. He suddenly became power-hungry.

Never watched that show, but they definitely tried to turned Dan into something he wasn't.

He definitely would have done that for Karen
