And I know we've discussed this before, but...what about Ted's mom? We only get her in S1 (this weeks group watch), and she seemed like she loved him very much.

I'd like to believe that Ted and Emmett met by chance in either Babylon or Woody's after Ted's just received one of his infamous rejections... and Emmett, who's just witnessed it, offers him one of his most up-lifting Emmett-isms for support. I just can't think of any other circumstances under which they first met, so this could be a possibility.
