So…back to the time it took for Justin to get the internship at Vangard and how long Brian and Justin were broken up. It could have been a few months. Which means B/J may have been apart for 6-9 months.
Justin was at Daphne's for a month. Justin had to apply for an internship, not using Brian as a reference. Justin had to gather his transcripts, letters of rec, approval from PIFA and submit his application. It could take weeks before Justin was even considered for an interview. I'm sure that Vangard has other Undergrad intern applications. So from application to interview to offer, it could have taken another month or two. Brian knew that J/E had broken up before he started interning. Although I agree that Brian would never be the one to go after someone, I think at that point Brian was resolved that he wouldn't be with Justin again. He hurt him too much. __________________

when we take MEls pregnancy into this calculation, we have to remember, that she was over her first trimester at the end of season 3. But I can't remember the episode where she fianlly as pregnant.

I don't remember what episode it was confirmed that Mel was pregnant, but she was 3 months in the finale.
