Gay Culture Thread #1 - b/c there's more to it than Brokeback Mountain

My lovely Co-mod Do decided to open a thread about gay culture in general, since it belongs to QaF, too. I know that there was a nice talk on the original thread, but I'm sure we can do this again here.

Like I said in live journal I finally saw brokeback mountain and I didn't like it. It just went to slow and I definitely didn't like the ending.

And to repeat what I said in your LJ about it: I feel like such a b.... when I say that I didn't really like the movie and everyone else is acting as if I'm crazy and try to tell me how good that movie is and that I just didn't understand it. Well, I understood it very well, I mean, I have the book here, too, but the movie...It was way too long IMO and the timeframe was so jumpy that I was never sure how much time had passed and where they were suddenly. They could have done it much better than that - even though I absolutely adore Jake Gyllenhaal.

I know right. I'm never listening to my cousin again he was the one who was saying the movie was great and everything so I decide to watch it. It's all his fault. I also thought that this movie was about being gay and proud something they weren't.

It's really nice to see you guys didn't like it either (I've witnessed too much of OMG AMAZING on lj everywhere). I've already said it lots of times - it's not a bad movie but I've seen much better ones that actually could change someone's point of view. This one not so much. Just another Hollywood story. It's a shame coz the cast was really good (Jake! Jake! ) and the director talented but the movie in itself wasn't that much wow worthy...

I like the movie but I like the short story more, I think that the movie is too long but the actors are great.

I finally started The L word, I like it so far but somehow I miss the hot naked guys

That's why I could never get into The L Word that much - the lack of hot naked guys I like the show but I'm still straight (and probably shallow ) so I need my dose of male hotness...

Same here, I'm a straight girl so I need my naked guys hotness once in a while

Is it me or is Tina/Bette totally like Mel/Linds?

I never thought of it but they have some similarities... And let's not forget Shane-Brian. Wasn't there even a storyline right in the beginning of S1 about Shane's blond one night stand turning stalker?

In season 3 Tina has a thing with a man, I was like OMG it's totally season 4 Mel/Linds

Shane is really Brian like and there was a blond girl in love with her in the pilot

I absolutely hated this storyline of Teena going straight... I could somehow understand Linds' behavior though - like Brian said there's nothing wrong with liking c***... I just remembered the blooper with Gale saying there's nothing long every time... God what a classic Freudian slip

Overall I wasn't that impressed with S3. Except for Alice. She was amazing by the end of the season...

He kept saying "there's nothing long" instead of "there's nothing wrong". I say it might be relevant
