What happened to Oz after he left Sunnydale? Nobody ever mentioned him again, right?

Well after the second time he left he was mentioned once in season 6. Xander pulled a joke and nobody laughed with it and he sits back and says something like, "See if Oz was here he'd have my back" and then Willow looks a little hurt over the mention of Oz, I remember that cause I was smiling over the mention.

I agree, I like to think he learned how to slowly control his inner monster and began to help fight the good fight somewhere in like New York or something.

exactly, it's something hard to do once you're caught into it, and plus he's part so that's all the reason to continue on.

they didn't only smell, cause I recall an episode where Oz was able to track Willow using his smelling -- wait yeah that's how he and Cordy found Willow and Xander Oz was tracking her scent.

Perhaps maybe the reason his strength wasn't fully useful cause it triggered the inner monster, so perhaps if he learned to control it, perhaps he would've been able to use it more as well.
