Joss had the idea of Scott mentioning he had a cousin in a mental hospital who thought she was a demon hunter, which meant that the entire Buffyverse was nothing but a delusional fantasy in some crazy girl's mind.

He couldn't figure out how to fit it into the X-Men storyline so he ditched it. Good thing too, because I think Buffy fans would've been pissed.

It was a stupid idea anyway.

It was Frank Miller, and both The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Again are considered non-canon alternate reality, Lauren. The only Frank Miller Batman story that is canon is Batman: Year One, Bruce's updated origin story.
