Lois Joanne Lane. Lois is one of the most complex and riveting characters on Smallville. She’s strong, smart, independent and self-sufficient. This woman is no damsel in distress. As an army brat, her father taught her to take care of herself and once her mother passed away when she was young, she became like a mother to her sister Lucy. She practically raised her little sister which fostered some strong sibling rivalry between these two. As seen in her relationship with Lucy, Lois is fiercely loyal to her friends and family and will always do whatever she can to be there for them and protect them. She usually keeps her emotions under lock and key, so the times we see her vulnerable are rare, which makes them have that much more of an emotional impact on her fans. While Lois is an army brat, and a tomboy at times, she’s also been shown as a stunning woman who can use her feminine charms to her advantage, like when she’s posing undercover for a story. Lois’s job as a journalist at the Daily Planet has really turned her life around. She’s proud of her work and that she’s doing something productive with her life, and she’s now driven to uncover the truth and report on it. Her style of reporting is of the “no holds barred” variety. There’s a popular expresion, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going” and that fits Lois to a “T”. She doesn’t run from trouble, she’ll run right into it. Lois has come a long way from her days on Smallville as a floundering college student, to a competent campaign manager / chief of staff, to a well-respected reporter for the Daily Planet. She’s grown up and matured into a lovely young woman and she’s proven over the past five years why she is Clark Kent’s soulmate and his future wife, which bring us to….

http://i28.tinypic.com/29ql660.jpgClark Jerome Kent. Sent to Earth by his biological parents, Jor-El and Lara, to save his life before his home planet Krypton exploded, he was found and raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Kents immediately embraced Clark into their lives and loved him like he was their own. In the past as Clark was growing up and discovery all of his powers and realizing who he really was, Clark struggled with accepting himself. He often said that he wished he was normal and this desire to be a normal human being has often led to disastrous consequences for Clark as seen in the episodes Mortal and Reckoning, when Jor-El stripped Clark of his powers and it ultimately ended up costing Jonathan his life. However, after spending time with his cousin Kara in the seventh season of Smallville, Clark embraced his Kyrptonian heritage much more. Getting to know Kara gave Clark a sense of belonging and the feeling that he had someone who truly understood what he was going through. Now after nine seasons on the show, Clark has fully embarked on his destiny and become the person he was meant to be all along. He let go of his past, which was no small task for Clark, and showed that he was finally willing to move on with his life. He saved more people than just his family and friends and did everything he can to make Metropolis a safer and better place. He also renewed his interest in journalism and started working at the Daily Planet directly across from Lois Lane. Clark’s greatest fear is to end up alone, but as he’s now realized with his growing feelings for Lois, as long as he has her in his life that won’t happen.

Interviews & Quotes

This departure opened the door for some new characters to come into the Smallville series, and the new Lois Lane played very effectively by new comer Erica Durance stepped into the role and won viewers respect almost as quickly as she did the cast and crew of the show.Welling when talking about the actress is very quick to point out how much he enjoys the onset chemistry between his character of Clark and Erica [Durance] as Lois Lane.
"What I particularly enjoy about her character is the side of Clark that she brings out. I love the sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek humor that we're able to portray in that relationship, and haven't been able to in the past because of the heavy, dramatic situations that Clark often found himself in with the other characters."
- a recent Tom Welling interview - taken from Superman Homepage.

Total Stars: Did Lois Lane bring a lot of changes in Clark's life?
Tom: She came into his life in a totally unexpected way and even though she doesn't change his life radically, she still has a strong impact on it. Lois does not behave with Clark as others do. She's natural, has no problems and she's got a knack for getting into trouble! Clark doesn't have a clue that she's going to be the love of his life (smile)

- a recent Tom Welling interview - taken from DTS.

Tom Welling: "I know that Lois isn't exactly a romantic addition, but you're right, there's a spark, a chemistry between Clark and Lois where they can't stand each other but at the same time, they can't stand not being around each other." - Tom Welling, December 2004

Laura Vandervoort is a Clois fan!
As a 'Smallville' fan, do you think Clark should be with Chloe, Lana or Lois?

I would have to say Lois Lane.
Chloe is kind of the best friend and there isn't really that kind of chemistry there. Lana has been there for so long on and off that I think it is time for a new woman.

"What is also interesting for me to see is these two fighting with each other and finding out why they love each other."

Ttfn. I really like the new thread title and can I say how glad I was to see that they kept the farm? I mean watched the Arrowverse thing before I watched Smallville so I knew. But I was so unhappy, when Clark's conclusion to Martha giving him the deed to the farm was, let's sell it. It was tough to think of these two in that tiny flat in Metropolis.

I did like their apartment in Metropolis though so I hope they have that as well.:rotfl: Or probably get something better one day but I also agree with you that it's sad when Clark decided to sell the farm, you could see how much that hurt Martha.:bawl: It's so sweet that Clark wants to raise his daughters the same place where his parents Martha and Jonathan raised him. Made sense to me.:yay: I'll assume that he probably decided to get it back around the time of Lois' pregnancy.

Nikki K 01-09-2020 08:28 AM

Yes, it was cozy and close to work... I could see the benefits of no commute. But then again, like you said I really felt as agitated as Martha and almost had a crying fit. And that is true that he would want to raise his daughters where he had a good childhood makes sense plus what Lois said about it being her first steady home after all she, Lucy and the General moved around a lot and then Lucy went to boarding school. I figured Clark didn't sell it but perhaps rented it? Who knows...

For me it was also noooo because I suddenly find myself in fic plotting land and it's crucial they still live at the farm. /headdesk

I agree, that Kent Farm has so many beautiful memories so the fact that their daughters will grow up there is so beautiful. However, i hope Clark still has his powers some way because I feel like that will always be a part of him so I don't want his powers to have be completely stripped away.

Rented it sounds good.

Did you enjoy Clark and Lois right from their first interaction episode of Crusade?

Nikki K 01-09-2020 06:02 PM

I agree about the powers. In a way it seems romantic and maybe practical that he would give it up to have this family but then again I remember those last episodes in season 10 and Lois worrying so much about the wedding and how she cannot claim Clark for herself because that would be selfish and you wonder wait, but what has changed between then and Arrowverse that she can fully live with this? It doesn't seem completely plausible so I like to think that perhaps he mutes them with the blue Kryptonite when need be? I don't know if that makes sense but as much sense as any I guess.

Absolutely. I was stoked when Lois finally appeared on the show. I guess what I liked most was that she wasn't immediately drawn in by his charms and good looks there, though of course she was susceptible. But she always held her own and let him know, vocally.

a fine mess 01-09-2020 06:33 PM

At a fan convention, they mentioned the blue kryptonite (fans did). Interesting theory.

eternalfate 01-09-2020 07:52 PM

^ I think a lot of people truly hope that's the case. lol

I am okay though if Clark spend 12+ years saving the world and doing everything he needed to do and deciding to finally settle down with Lois. That would be okay as well. Because that would mean Clark did fufill his destiny and he is on the next chapter of his life however his daughters would have to have some of his powers so it would've been nice if he could show them how like them he is.

I think everyone is hoping for the blue kryptonite because at least his powers will always still be there and can come back instead of it being gone forever.

Comics restrictions is to blame for Clois not happening as earlier. But I did love the banter they had.

That or Kara could come back and show them. Often kids take things better from the cool aunt as a teacher. ;)

See, I'm fine with it either way – powers, no powers –*like you said, he could have run around for more than 12 years as Superman and done what he needed to do, he deserves his "happily ever after". The only thing that I'd like to have filled in I guess is how they came to the decision as a couple that this was the move at the right time.

scififan2009 01-10-2020 08:10 AM

I love this panel.

Michael being who he is takes up most of it. But occasionally ya get this really sweet Clois mention or Tom complimenting Erica on her portrayal of Lois.

eternalfate 01-10-2020 08:57 AM

^I watched that months ago, I really loved that one.;)

Oh that could work as well.:)

I always preferred Clark with powers since it was a part of him, it wasn't like he was meteor affected or anything, he's really a kryptonian alien from Krypton who was born with these special abilities which is what made Clark (Superman) story special. The main downfall was always him outgrowing everyone he loves since he's suppose to age at a slower pace. So, I remember when Clark always thought he'd end up alone so the fact that he's human and with Lois now is special

For me though I'd always prefer Clark to have his abilities.

Nikki K 01-10-2020 04:12 PM

scififan2009 – Thank you for the video. I've never been to a convention (apart from the one I accidentally walked past, I think I mentioned that). Have all of you been?

Tia – I guess I understand where you are coming from. I have never really been into superhero shows or Superman – never watched any of the other shows, admittedly I may have read the occasional comic when I looked for some for other people but that's really all. So yes what I wanted to say is, even from watching Smallville alone it seems odd – Clark/Superman without powers because despite his constant fight with his Kryptonian side and Jor-El, it was something that belonged to him and he learnt to make his own over the seasons. The leaving the partner behind theme – I guess that's something that is not exclusive to this situation but has been a theme on other series/movies as well, it's still sad nonetheless. But yes like you said... I guess with this glimpse they gave us in the Arrowverse, Clark giving up his powers (permanently or temporarily), that does make Lois special.

I think all in all, I preferred Lois and Clark to be a team – like yes those scenes when she didn't know he was The Blur and the phone calls were sweet and all but overall my favourite parts were when they were investigating things together... or even that episode that was kind of terrible where Lois created her own superheroine persona and then ended up rescuing Clark and Jimmy. (I also, and I'm fully aware that I'm surely in a minority here, loved the interactions between the Lane sisters and was so happy when they finally talked things out and made up in season 10.)
