Tbh, ship wars were intense before. I think it still is (for example, CW shows) but it also depends on the fandom.

I've read some good fics post-DH of these two but tbh, nothing stayed with me. I don't read as much fics now so I prefer to just get canon stuff via Pottermore c/o JKR but I highly doubit it.

I haven't read anything from fics, but I prefer to stick w/ the books..
