I wonder why though? If her being closed off has to do with her past, maybe about her parents? Also the fact that Newt is also somewhat closed off as well but eventually Newt opened up to her and she opened up to him.

I would say bec of her parents and losing her role in the job then everything.. But you can notice that she started to open up little bit to Newt..
