How does the MET Gala work anyway? Are celebs invited every year or they can opt not to attend when they don't want to and just make appearances every now and then?

I feel like if they were invited then they had to paid for it, but if not then they don't have to.. I think that it depend on each one as long if they needed to promoted themselves .. And they can opt not to attend then they can come back for other event, but it depend on the host of MET Gala..

Yeah most of the attendees at the MET have upcoming projects to promote and being seen there can be good PR.
