It's all mostly shows in Deathly Hallows. But prior to that movie, it wasn't shown I think. I do think there were numerous mentions of it from the books.

I believe that too. I want to know why they have to be Death Eaters? Or are they just following the lead of all the other rich wizarding families by joining them?

Or manipulated them. Most of those who do join the Death Eaters do so willingly or have really sad and/or tragic backgrounds.
