Harry really had no one which is I think what JKR wanted. That even though Harry had no one (especially on his biological side), that he will still be protected and helped by other people not related to him.

Voldemort knew that Harry was protected inside Hogwarts so DH was the perfect time to finally get to him as he was mostly outside of Hogwarts that time. But Voldemort also tried to get to him inside of Hogwarts (through Quirrel, through Scabbers, etc).

He sent the Death Eaters and Snatchers to look for Harry. Eventually he did find him at Hogwarts and this was right after Snape died. That whole moment in the book was nerve wracking.
