She was basically there as a filler though tbh, she's not needed for the story lines in part 3 anyway.

Sure but if you take away her scenes, the story lines are still intact. So I feel like she was only added for the nostalgia and HP connection (like you said). Plus McGonagall is a lot younger there too, maybe in her early 20s?
