She was in Slytherin in that AU fic I read (in which Petunia was the witch instead of Lily), and that's where I picture her as well. Sadly, because I don't want her on my house.
 Yea, Petunia was liked to be the center of attentions, and Lily kinda took her spotlight. __________________

And she didn't like that Lily was a witch. I guess probably because she just wanted a normal life? What I don't like is how she handled that knowledge.

I think she was just jealous of Lily because she was so different and so bright, and I can imagine their parents being constantly impressed with Lily. Petunia hated magic because that ruined things for her, not because she liked to be normal, I think. Because we know she asked Dumbledore if she could join Hogwarts as well. Over the years Petunia just got bitter and bitter.
 I hate how she ruined her relationship with Lily.__________________

 She just got bitter and bitter and overly jealous of Lily where there is no reason to be. She didn't like magic at all and that scared her. It's really sad how they've become and mostly it's because of Petunia. __________________

What happened to Lily and Petunia's relationship is really sad.
I think Lily tried to fix things with Petunia for a few years after she went to Hogwarts, but there were only so many times she could handle being rejected and apologizing for things that were out of her control before she stopped trying. I found a wonderful essay on tumblr that sums up some of the reasons I adore Lily.  Quote:

And I guess Petunia was maybe a little jealous of James as well? Because like it or not, he was a much better choice than Verson, and Petunia knew it. I think she resented Lily for doing "better" on that as well.
That text is very spot on, Emily.  Thanks for the link. I think Lily is an amazing character too, she and Hermione are my favorite girls from the books.__________________

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the essay too.
 Lindsay, I don't think she's writing fanfics, but if she posts one I'll link it.  James was definitely a better person than Vernon. This conversation reminds me of the fanfic Twice as Bright. It was written before the DH book was released.I love that photoset, Lindsay. __________________
