I don't have any say on locations.

The OTOs seem to be gradually working their way east... Last year some got together in Las Vegas... Next month they're getting together in San Antonio and Austin, TX... I'm waiting for them to make it to St. Louis!

OH! Several got together at the Tribeca film fest in NY last year also... Maybe they'll do that again this year.

Later,

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! NYC is pretty far for me too,but I have family in NJ so I can always combine the two visits. And I could really do the Texas thing too except for the fact that I am already flying to Texas in April and I couldn't see making 2 trips so close together. Well, maybe next year!

And for anybody who CAN make it to LA area in August,I have always heard wonderful things about the Bowl-a-thon both as to fun had and a good cause being supported.

Looks like we don't have another birthday until Bill's in mid-April! If anyone else wants to sign in here...we love us a good reason to celebrate. So don't be shy.

Yes, it's the biggest birthday of all tomorrow. Let's sing a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday to You" to

WILLIAM SADLER

YAY!!!!

I belong to the SCA. We have a little birthday song we like to do...after waaay too many beers:

The SCA birthday song is an old, but happy tradition. It seems to have fallen out of favour recently (mostly because no-one can remember the words). This song has has several names, such as 'The SCA Birthday Dirge', 'The Barbarian Birthday Song', 'The Viking Birthday Song' etc. and is sung to the tune of 'The Volga Boatmen'. After each "Happy birthday" is sung/chanted, it is followed by a thud or grunt you get if you lift something heavy. This isn't a copyrighted song, and variations run free through the SCA and can be found everywhere. There are loads of variations, but here are several:

The Birthday Dirge

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Doom and gloom and dark despair
People dying everywhere!

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Black Death has just struck your town
You yourself feel quite run-down

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

So you're 29 again
Don't tell lies to your good friend

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

So another year has passed
Don't look now they're gaining fast!

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Fear and gloom and darkness but
no one found out YOU KNOW WHAT

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Were I sitting in your shoes
I'd go out and sing the blues

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

The Viking/Barbarian Verses:

Burn the castle and storm the keep
Kill the women, but save the sheep

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Indigestion's what you get
From the enemies you 'et

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

May the candles on your cake
Burn like cities in your wake.

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

We love children, yes we do
Baked or broiled or in a stew

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

May your deeds with sheep and yaks
Equal those with sword and axe

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

This one lesson you must learn
First you pillage, then you burn

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

While you eat your birthday stew
We will loot the town for you.

Happy Birthday! thud! Happy Birthday! thud!

Bet Bill is sorry we're not all there to sing(bellow) this in person to him!!

We have camping weekends. The purpose of the costumes is so we can have great banquet feasts with dancing, revelry and bad song stylings....as well as sometimes when it all comes together in the candlelight and is quite magical.
