Well a lot of fans actually shipped them long before even Something Blue Season 4.

That's why that episode happened in the first place according to JM.

Imagine if Buffy ended with her split second killing all of Sunnydale out of nowhere with no real reason and no build up, unlike with Willow it is larger scale and there is no redemption she is now fully portrayed as a villain. Giles gives a talk to Spike about how Buffy has always been turning evil because of being in power and needs to be killed, how she's actually worse than the first evil, that all her fans should feel bad and culpable for supporting her in the first place. Then Spike kisses and stabs her to death like a rabid dog because she's gone too mad, he feels sad but then goes on a cool road trip with Clem and gets over it. Then the second half of the finale really boring with the surviving cast making dumb jokes and rearranging chairs while barely even mentioning Buffy's death, and they decide to make Kennedy the lead slayer because reasons, and we're meant to be happy for this ending. The bringers die because bricks fell on their heads, the first evil was killed quickly three episodes prior by Faith instead out of nowhere, despite her not being nearly as involved in that plotline as Buffy & the gang, purely because it was "unexpected".

And that's just some of what was so awful, they ruined all the side characters too.

Yeah.

BTVS went so so so much better <3 and I am so thankful that it is re-watchable.

I can't imagine how angry I would have gotten if Buffy turned out like that!

I was upset as hell when I heard Spike would die in the final Buffy episode, but even if I didn't find out shortly after that he was being brought back on Angel it still would have been a better ending than GOT as the characters remained themselves.

That scene still makes me sad though!
