Yep b/c unlike today writers would encourage shipping them.

Marti was horrified that people shipped Spike & Dawn together.

It didn't make fans ship them any less.

People will ship who they want.

Writers won't change it majority of of the time.

I really don’t understand how people shipped them? But to each their own I guess

I’m actually glad buffy was on before Social media exploded Bc the fandom and ship wars would have probably ruined a lot of it for me. Like how it does with newer shows now. And with, like you said, writers encouraging trash.

I'm glad BTVS was before social media too.

Look at the way the fandom is on there now.

It's bad enough.

I guess it's some of the same fans that were ok with Bangel when Buffy was the same age.

Well for the record I wasn't meaning to bash Bangel.

It's just Buffy was the same age on the show.

So was thinking some that shipped Bangel would be ok with Spawn too.

It’s hilarious to me that she was the only person that noticed Spike’s obvious crush on Buffy. Although I actually think that Dawn is quite observant and perceptive when it comes to people.

Conversations with Dead People is pretty much a showcase for how awesome and brave she is. She fights for her loved ones as passionately as Buffy does.

She totally knew about Buffy being a slayer way before Joyce did, and would help cover for her when Joyce got suspicious.

Buffy and Dawn’s relationship was the most compelling and beautiful relationship on the show, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

The whole point of this post was to be positive, and not defensive, but seriously, this character is wonderful and funny and sweet, and she DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR HATE.

I love all those reasons!

I loved Dawn even as a casual viewer Season 5.

Buffy & Dawn bond was more real to me than any with the core Scoobies.

I never disliked Dawn. I always understood her. Even her 'immaturity'...you could argue that false, implanted memories are not the same as, you know, actually being alive and that Dawn was learning who she was and how to simply be, just that, alive. Girl was a teenager who was less than a year old. Cut her a break, people.

Never forget that Dawn was ready to jump from the tower without a seconds hesitation to save the world.
