I find it so interesting for a person who was terrified of having children and marriage. She got both, mostly because she had no choice in the matter if she wanted to rule someday... But I do think it's so interesting that she loves those children (stepchildren included) more than anything in the world. It's nice and could've gone completely different.

^^ It also 'humanizes' her more, if that makes sense, so rather than just being all about the throne, there's a family she's trying to protect while taking the throne. A reason behind 'just having that power'.

Medieval is about power IMO, so the family aspect makes that person who wants the power, have a more moral reason for it.
