I have seen his fans state he isn't a deadbeat because "there are worse dads out there." What kind of backwards reasoning is that?

Lindsay 06-11-2022 10:29 AM

Canon is canon. He's been shown as a deadbeat.

stellar_dust 06-11-2022 12:11 PM

Right! You can't change the canon of the show and canon shows us that Chris is a deadbeat. Saying he isn't is altering the canon to fit an agenda Chris fans try to present.

onebreath 06-11-2022 03:11 PM

Some canon facts:

Chris a deadbeat dad
Lorelai was never in love with Chris and only loved Luke

stellar_dust 06-12-2022 06:27 AM

I really like that second fact. It's makes suffering through any romantic Chris and Lorelai moments slightly more tolerable knowing that she doesn't love that loser and never would, regardless of her feelings for Luke.

onebreath 06-12-2022 09:40 AM

It is a good feeling knowing that. A a bit of a slap in the face to their 20+ year relationship that Lorelai realises she has never been in love with him and never would, but immensely satisfying.

A slap in the face I very much enjoy. Anything that downplays that awful relationship.

Yep. It definitely helps.

A relationship not worth investing in when one half isn't in love with the other. Tbh I even question if Chris was actually in love with Lorelai or if he just more had an obsessive infatuation with her and their teenage relationship.

stellar_dust 06-13-2022 04:30 AM

Yes, I question it too. Time stood still for Chris and he wanted to remain in the fantasy where he and Lorelai are still the teenagers they were before Lorelai got pregnant. Lorelai regresses when she's with him, where as Luke helps her grow.

onebreath 06-13-2022 07:48 AM

That's exactly what he does, he lives in a fantasy world in the past where he wants his teenage relationship with Lorelai to remain. He has Peter Pan syndrome. He never grew up.

stellar_dust 06-14-2022 05:26 AM

You're right, he does. It also goes with him seeing Rory as someome who came in between him and Lorelai. I think he resents her for that.

onebreath 06-14-2022 06:48 AM

He absolutely does. Rory is the interloper who took "Lor" away from him. He only shiws an interest in Rory is it means to getting closer to "Lor."

stellar_dust 06-14-2022 02:25 PM

Yes he really does see Rory that way. A fine example is when he pulled his stunt at the vow renewal, then he had no contact with Rory, didn't even know she dropped out of Yale, because he wasn't in contact with Lorelai.

onebreath 06-14-2022 02:49 PM

Exactly! He was on the outs with Lorelai, so he had zero interest in Rory.

So, the actor who plays Brian - John Crabrera - has been hosting some events this month for the show. One of the events is he reads a series of short fics where the author writes where the characters ended up in 2015. She wrote them before the revival. Anyway, tonight he read out the "Lorelai's guys" ones. Each character has their own piece. In Christopher's, he dies.
